Hi All,

How can you find out how full a flight is? If this flight I am on (per-mel) on qf768 on xmas day is very full I will probably go business class. If there is plenty of room in economy I wont bother......just dont want to have to put up with lots of people ....

any ideas?

QF Reservations are under no obligation to advise you how full the flight is, given commercial reasons & Privacy Act provisions.

However, anybody with Expert Flyer or similar access (software programs that back into the software that the airlines use), should be able to give you a good idea on how many seats are left on the flight.

Now where is serfty, NM or Dave Noble when members need them??

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Best I came up with is that there are at least 9 "J" seats free and at least 9 "Y" seats free.

Plenty of space to upgrade though... At least 5 upgrade seats available. It's Christmas day. Upgrade yourself :D

Currently its booking class availabilty shows as J9 D9 I0 U5 Y9 B9 H9 W9 K9 M9 R9 L9 V9 S9 N9 Q9 O0 G0 T9 X0 E0.

I take this to mean it's wide open in ecomony at the moment; the presence of N9 (red e-deal) availabity at just less than two weeks out along with T9 (Elite Y award) indicates this. (The maximum number that will show for each class is 9.)

Business is wide open as well, as Mal posted there are 5 Business award or upgrade seats available. This is indicated by the U5.

The only way to know for sure is to have access to QF's reservation system. The various class availability tools only show to a max of 9 for each fare bucket, so can't know if there are 9 available for sale or 109 available. And being a domestic flight, the seat map is no guide.

The existance of N9 Q9 booking classes implies there are still lots of cheap seats available, so is an indication it may not be heavily booled.

Traditionally, xmas day flights (dom) aare fairly empty.

I used to do quite a bit of xmas day flying (trying to keep various sections of the family happy) and there was never very many pax aboard. Usually nice laid back flights however.

Sorry, one more question - how do on departure upgrades work? Do they still come out of U class - ie if no U class available then the likely hood of an on departure upgrade = 0?

Thanks!

Needs to be U availability for the domestic sector of an international flight, but for a domestic flight there just needs to be an available J seat.
