PLEASE INCLUDE DATE, FLIGHT NUMBER, ORIGIN & DESTINATION IN ALL REQUESTS
>>>> ADDED BY ADMIN (6 Sept 2010) <<<<

Background to this thread
We have noticed an increase in the posting of questions about seat availability on specific flights. These are all valid questions and we all appreciate the efforts our members go to to provide answers.

The only drawback is that our forums can become "cluttered" with specific questions about availability on specific flights. This tends to reduce the overall usability of our site.
We have therefore created this new consolidated thread where you can ask questions about seat availability on specific flights. Hopefully, this will reduce clutter and improve useability.

Guidelines for posting in this thread
Please post questions about availability of specific flights or upgrade probability in this new consolidated thread. Be sure to include the airline, flight number, date, origin and destination and any other relevant detail.

When answering questions, please include the original question. This will assist in readability and management of the thread.

Thanks!

See this thread for hints on how to read loadings:

If looking for, say Qantas points upgrades, look for A class for First, mid to high D or any I class for Business and any R for Premium Economy.

Look for the most expensive category of the cabin YOU are currently booked in as being sold out e.g. J0 to first, W0 to Business & Y0 to PE for increased op-up chances. Also, look for availability on the discount premium buckets (A, P, I, D, U, T & Z inventories).

Conversely, look for high numbers in the discount economy buckets (N, O, Q, E & X inventories) for reduced op-up chances.

Seat maps can be a VERY rough guide but note that just because a seat is not showing as allocated does not mean that seat hasn't been sold. Not everyone pre-selects seats.

Thx Boca68,
could you share where is this data from? Expert Flyer?
Would you just opt to Classic Reword in my case and instant confirmation?

Definitely. There are reward seats available on QF30 in J on the 17th. Sadly none in J on either of the CX flights.

Thanks Ansett!
You say you would transfer points from your gold account to you wife's bronze account? Is that right? If you can, request the upgrade from your gold account, stands a slightly better chance.
How is this possible? to purchase tickets for another person from my Gold.... I thought tickets and QFF acc must be on the same name.

yeh, it's very sad, I got ticket to CX105 now but have to change to QF30 now :(

It is very simple you select flights and when it comes to enter name you enter name of wife it asks you her relationship to you you confirm wife and all done Simples :)

G'day guys,

Looking to book a very last minute flight here.

I know my chances are slim to none, but just wondering what the chances of an upgrade from PE to J would be on the following

QF7 SYD - DFW
1230 - 1300

Looking at either;
-Thursday 20/7/17
-Friday 21/7/17

Thanks in advance.

CB.

Can still purchase 9 First class seats on the 20th and 8 J class so may be reasonable subject to other people trying for the upgrade...

Can someone please post loadings for following flights?

Thanks dairyfloss. The seat maps would be interesting. Flights look wide open and Qantas charging close to $200 for a one-way BNE-SYD.

Silly question if the experts here don't mind. Let's say there is an Award upgrade request from Y to J. There is no empty J seat, however, at least one F seat is available. Question:
1. do you think the upgrade will happen?
2. if yes to 1. who will get the upgrade? the requester to jump directly to F or J. In the latter, a high status PAX in J would get a free upgrade to F?

More likely some one to go from J to F on points or opup, To go from Y to F is almost never ever heard of.

Ansett: you mean the requester can go from Y to J and someone in J will get an opup to F?
personally, i would just aim for J as 2J is worth much more than 1F to me.

I mean it is possible that the requestor may get his upgrade from Y to J subject to lots of things lining up.
The chance of the requestor going from Y to F is virtually a big fat Zero.
A High Tier flyer may get a complimentary upgrade or some one with a points request from J to F may get to possibly open up a seat in J.

Bear in mind too that some one in PE will have priority over some one in Y.

So I would say realistically the chance of it happening would be slim at best.

Booked QF7 Flexible Economy at approx 7pm last night for this Thursday 1230 departure.
Requested points upgrade to J

Received text message 8am this confirming upgrade to J

Flexible exonmy was around 1600 cheaper then PE as a return fare.

Winning

Thanks for the info Ansett

Hi all,

Could someone please check the loadings of QF1 SYD-LHR 5/08/17 and QF2 LHR-SYD 17/08/17? Am in PE and have requested upgrade to J. Interested to know what my chances are!

Thanks for your help in advance.

They look to be fairly lightly loaded assuming that most people pre-allocate seat for domestic flights.

Why assume?

Availability versus Spare Seats
Flight
QF
551
QF
563
QF
553
Class
J
Y
J
Y
J
Y
Availability (GDS)
7
62
4
54
9
64
Spare Seats (EF)
10
108
9
111
12
129

Thus in J 2/5, 3/8 and 0/3 PAX preallocated seats, a total of 5/16 or 31.25%.
And in Y 54/100, 51/108 & 33/98 PAX preallocated, total 138/272 or 50.07%
Total PAX in all cabins 143/288 preallocated seats for an average of 49.65%.

So although a very slim majority of economy PAX preallocated their seats the assumption that "most people preallocate seat for domestic flights" is not borne out by this data.

QF1 looks really good at this stage

QF 1SYD 3:50p → LHR 6:55a

QF2 looks somewhat less promising but there is still hope and it is still a way off

QF 2LHR 9:35p → SYD 5:10a
