PLEASE INCLUDE DATE, FLIGHT NUMBER, ORIGIN & DESTINATION IN ALL REQUESTS
>>>> ADDED BY ADMIN (6 Sept 2010) <<<<

Background to this thread
We have noticed an increase in the posting of questions about seat availability on specific flights. These are all valid questions and we all appreciate the efforts our members go to to provide answers.

The only drawback is that our forums can become "cluttered" with specific questions about availability on specific flights. This tends to reduce the overall usability of our site.
We have therefore created this new consolidated thread where you can ask questions about seat availability on specific flights. Hopefully, this will reduce clutter and improve useability.

Guidelines for posting in this thread
Please post questions about availability of specific flights or upgrade probability in this new consolidated thread. Be sure to include the airline, flight number, date, origin and destination and any other relevant detail.

When answering questions, please include the original question. This will assist in readability and management of the thread.

Thanks!

See this thread for hints on how to read loadings:

If looking for, say Qantas points upgrades, look for A class for First, mid to high D or any I class for Business and any R for Premium Economy.

Look for the most expensive category of the cabin YOU are currently booked in as being sold out e.g. J0 to first, W0 to Business & Y0 to PE for increased op-up chances. Also, look for availability on the discount premium buckets (A, P, I, D, U, T & Z inventories).

Conversely, look for high numbers in the discount economy buckets (N, O, Q, E & X inventories) for reduced op-up chances.

Seat maps can be a VERY rough guide but note that just because a seat is not showing as allocated does not mean that seat hasn't been sold. Not everyone pre-selects seats.

Original thread title: update on QF93 on 12 sept

Appreciate it if someone could check EP for loadings.

Can anyone shed light on the likelihood of an upgrade from Economy (S) to Business on Thursday 18th's QF29?

I've almost exclusively flown Discount Economy so I've never actually popped through a classic upgrade request. I'd imagine this is a pretty frequently flown route but curious to know how likely it is. And whether I should perhaps opt for upgrades at check-in/gate.

Yep that's the only option I was offered when I called but the flight leaves ADL so early it requires you overnight there. Most operators at MP seem a little clueless in booking SQ so I had to HUACA a couple of times before I was even offered that option.

Guess I'll book the indirect option with TG and keep my eye out in case anything opens up on SQ; or alternatively look at options out of AKL.

Thanks for all your help, glad I found this forum

Some more options for you...

I can see 2x J seats on SQ256 & SQ266 BNE-SIN on 13 April. There are also seats on SQ292 CBR-SIN departing 12 April.

Your chances look pretty good! Economy looks quite empty, and there are still a fair few empty seats in Business. I'd still tick the "upgrade at the gate" box, just in case.

Here's the flight load from Expert Flyer:

Whilst Mattg has answered your request, in future please specify the departure and arrival airport. Expert Flyer does not use flight numbers for the search.

Thanks Mattg. Is it just me or is that something like 75% empty based on a 28 Seat Business Class Cabin?

Also, thanks JessicaTam. I've never used ExpertFlyer myself so I'll definitely note that if I have to ask a similar question again in the future!

Not quite. Based on that information, my guess would actually be that there's only 6-8 seats left.

Though interestingly, there appears to be more seats in J now than a few hours ago. Perhaps two people just cancelled.

FWIW 18/28 seats have already been allocated.

This is the loading now: J8 C8 D7 I5 Y9 B9 H9 K9 M9 L9 V9 S9N9 Q9 O9 G0 X9

The number of seats in the various fare buckets within a class are not coughulative.
If the carrier will sell a seat in a low fare bucket such as sale or discount business (I for example) then they will sell the same seat in a high fare bucket such as flexible business (J for example).
Of course the reverse is not true. So there are often / usually more seats available in higher priced fare buckets.
So in the above, there are 6 seats on sale in J or C, 5 in D and 3 in I.
But there aren't 20 seats for sale. There are probably 6 seats for sale. Which would make it 21.43% empty if there are 28 seats in business (I haven't checked that).
The 3 for sale in I also show up in D, C & J.
The 5 for sale in D also show up in J & C.
Similarly all we can say with certainty about economy availability is that there are at least 9 seats available. More than 9 won't show.
But you can't just add up all the 9s in all the fare buckets and conclude that there are 108 seats available in economy.

Hi, could someone please tell me how loadings are looking for BA285 (LHR-SFO) on Saturday 20 August? I'm angling for an upgrade from premium economy (W) to J.

Thanks a lot.

Need to go to Manila for work and will put in for a points upgrade to J. Can those more knowledgeable than me advise whether I'd have more change of securing the upgrade if I fly on Sunday 28/8 than if I fly on Monday 29/8? Will fly QF19 from SYD. Status: gold.

Both flights appear reasonably full in Business, but of the two options I would fly on Sunday 28/8.

QF19 on 28/8: J6 C6 D2 I0 Y9 B9 H9 K9 M9 L9 V9 S9N9 Q9 O9 G0 X9
QF19 on 29/8: J5 C4 D0 I0 Y9 B9 H9 K9 M9 L9 V9 S9N9 Q9 O9 G0 X9

Thanks mate. Will probably try my luck with the Sunday and see how I go.

A friend asked me, but I don't currently have access to EF - Monday 22/8 and Tuesday 23/8 - how is VA1 SYD - LAX looking across all classes? Again, which is better to fly for the possibility of an upgrade? (Many thanks).

Good day. I am looking to fly QF 51 from BNE to SIN. I been waiting for a while for J to open up on either on 27/28 of Oct but it still remain elusive. Can someone kind enough to advise me if its worth continue waiting or cut my losses and go with EK ? Many thanks in advance.

I'm not sure what you're asking.
All business fare buckets are quite open on QF51 on both days with the exception of U (Business award and upgrade):
27/10/2016 J9 C9 D8 I7 Y9 B9 H9 K9 M9 L9 V9 S9 N9 Q9 O9 G0 X9
28/10/2016 J9 C9 D9 I9 Y9 B9 H9 K9 M9 L9 V9 S9 N9 Q9 O9 G0 X9

As far as I know QF don't release any further seats into U close to the date (unlike CX for example).
So this is unlikely to open up. Unless you're a Platinum QFF in which case you could call and ask for seats to be released from I to U.
Otherwise it's a question of booking in economy and trying your luck in the upgrade lottery.

Many thanks for your assistance. Sorry I wasn't clear - I intended to book a classic award redemption. Looks like I have to join the upgrade lottery as I am keen to try the new business. Many thanks for your help again.

Not sure if you have got the answer, but VA1 on 23/8 has 7 seats across the buckets in J, and the day before only 2. Y looks much the same both days.
