PLEASE INCLUDE DATE, FLIGHT NUMBER, ORIGIN & DESTINATION IN ALL REQUESTS
>>>> ADDED BY ADMIN (6 Sept 2010) <<<<

Background to this thread
We have noticed an increase in the posting of questions about seat availability on specific flights. These are all valid questions and we all appreciate the efforts our members go to to provide answers.

The only drawback is that our forums can become "cluttered" with specific questions about availability on specific flights. This tends to reduce the overall usability of our site.
We have therefore created this new consolidated thread where you can ask questions about seat availability on specific flights. Hopefully, this will reduce clutter and improve useability.

Guidelines for posting in this thread
Please post questions about availability of specific flights or upgrade probability in this new consolidated thread. Be sure to include the airline, flight number, date, origin and destination and any other relevant detail.

When answering questions, please include the original question. This will assist in readability and management of the thread.

Thanks!

See this thread for hints on how to read loadings:

If looking for, say Qantas points upgrades, look for A class for First, mid to high D or any I class for Business and any R for Premium Economy.

Look for the most expensive category of the cabin YOU are currently booked in as being sold out e.g. J0 to first, W0 to Business & Y0 to PE for increased op-up chances. Also, look for availability on the discount premium buckets (A, P, I, D, U, T & Z inventories).

Conversely, look for high numbers in the discount economy buckets (N, O, Q, E & X inventories) for reduced op-up chances.

Seat maps can be a VERY rough guide but note that just because a seat is not showing as allocated does not mean that seat hasn't been sold. Not everyone pre-selects seats.

Is anyone able to check J award availability on the QR DOH-DPS for 10 Jan 17? Qantas shows 2 seats online but they tell me over the phone that there's only 1.

Any reason EF would be showing different availability for the same flight?

Looking at CBR-LAX. Showed 2 options via SYD and QF11. Only difference was a 14xx Dash 8 or 15xx 717 flight for CBR-SYD.
Looking at WRT fares. One of the QF11 options was showing R2. The other had R1. Same flight, same date.

I've seen different results when doing two-leg segments vs single segments. Assumed there was a reason (such as always showing the lowest available across both legs). Not sure if that's the issue you are seeing but I do separate segments now as a result (unless looking for award fares).

QF started using married segment control this year so the GDS will return the same availability on both segments now based on what they are willing to sell as origin/destination, rather than each leg individually.

Generally, married segment control has been advantageous to international travel and mixed for domestic travel (sometimes good, sometimes bad).

It's really great when people bother to say "thanks". It makes it feel worthwhile to share the value of the expert flyer subscription which you paid for (and they didn't).

How far out from a flight is it meaningful to check the loadings for upgrade chances? I guess with those loadings if I take that flight I'd have some chance of a successful points upgrade even as PS?

Generally any further out than 10-14 days is only an indicator. It is not until quite close, say 4-7 days out, ie the few days before T-80, that you can gain an idea of likelihood. So in the case of your SFO flight this week, the indicators are good for some upgrades, depending on where pax are in the pecking order. It is still J9, with W down to 1. Upstairs J is very full based on the seat map, but lots of unallocated downstairs (see below).
