PLEASE INCLUDE DATE, FLIGHT NUMBER, ORIGIN & DESTINATION IN ALL REQUESTS
>>>> ADDED BY ADMIN (6 Sept 2010) <<<<

Background to this thread
We have noticed an increase in the posting of questions about seat availability on specific flights. These are all valid questions and we all appreciate the efforts our members go to to provide answers.

The only drawback is that our forums can become "cluttered" with specific questions about availability on specific flights. This tends to reduce the overall usability of our site.
We have therefore created this new consolidated thread where you can ask questions about seat availability on specific flights. Hopefully, this will reduce clutter and improve useability.

Guidelines for posting in this thread
Please post questions about availability of specific flights or upgrade probability in this new consolidated thread. Be sure to include the airline, flight number, date, origin and destination and any other relevant detail.

When answering questions, please include the original question. This will assist in readability and management of the thread.

Thanks!

See this thread for hints on how to read loadings:

If looking for, say Qantas points upgrades, look for A class for First, mid to high D or any I class for Business and any R for Premium Economy.

Look for the most expensive category of the cabin YOU are currently booked in as being sold out e.g. J0 to first, W0 to Business & Y0 to PE for increased op-up chances. Also, look for availability on the discount premium buckets (A, P, I, D, U, T & Z inventories).

Conversely, look for high numbers in the discount economy buckets (N, O, Q, E & X inventories) for reduced op-up chances.

Seat maps can be a VERY rough guide but note that just because a seat is not showing as allocated does not mean that seat hasn't been sold. Not everyone pre-selects seats.

Original thread title: update on QF93 on 12 sept

Appreciate it if someone could check EP for loadings.

Thanks defurax, I have now gone ahead and booked through the PR agent. Does the "FARE BASIS: BLREXAU" (and XLREXAU) shown on the ticket provide any clue as to the fare bucket?

Usually the first letter of the fare basis is the bucket, so B and X in this case.

Wow! I'm amazed at the amount of information available. All one has to do is ask. Thanks again defurax!

QF 11/12 vs QF 93/94 [upgrade chances]

Hello there!

Long time lurker, first time poster :)

I'm booking flights to LAX for the 25th of January and returning on the 6th of Feb. I was wondering whether I would have a slightly better chance of a points upgrade departing from or arriving to Melbourne rather than Sydney?

I'm booking a Y+ fare on the way there and a flexible economy ticket on the return. Do I have a better chance of being upgraded from Y+ to J rather than trying to upgrade from economy?

Given that I'm departing for LAX on a Sunday and departing LAX on a Friday I don't exactly like my chances of a points upgrade to J. And I'm only QF silver / Qantas club.

Many thanks in advance! :)

On both your travel days, there is an extra MEL-LAX service (QF 95/96), I can only guess that having a 380 and a 747 on these days will increase the chance of an upgrade compared to normal days with only QF93/94.

The way upgrades are processed is based on QFF status, not the cabin or fare paid.

re: QF 11/12 vs QF 93/94 [upgrade chances]

When I was silver, I got a points upgrade Y > W, and an op up W > J on QF11 (for the same flight).

Would have thought melbourne has better chance. Also departing LAX on a sunday is probably ok because you would arrive on a Tuesday, which may not be so popular.

Thanks everyone for your help. I think I have decided to depart from MEL. Given I'm from CBR it doesn't really matter either way :)

I'm departing LAX on a Friday so I'll be back on the Sunday :)

I'm based in CBR as well. The last time I booked a transpac as a standalone I ended up having to go to a travel agent because I simply couldn't get the internet to offer what I wanted. It either gave me the routing I wanted (CBR-MEL-LAX-SJC-LAX-SYD-CBR), but not the fare class, or gave me the fare class I wanted, but not the routing.

That time, to get QF93, I had to get the very first CBR-MEL flight of the day, so was up waiting for the taxi at 4am. Had to come back via SYD (which I try to avoid) due to flight times and when I had to be back at work. Hopefully with the new AU-US flights, the times are much better then they were back in 2011 (just after SFO was canned).

Hi, hoping someone can help.

We have applied for a points upgrade for 4 pax (WP booked) on QF2 from DXB - SYD 23 November.

We were successful on the QF1 outward leg with upgrades awarded 4 days out, just wondering about our chances for the return?.

If it looks like no hope I will apply for points upgrade for the 1st leg of travel from LHR - DXB QF2 on 21/11.

This is the loading for QF2 on 23 November: F2 A1 P0 J6 C0 D0 I0 U0 W1 R0 T0 Z0 Y9 B9 H9 K9 M9 L9 V9 S9 N9 Q9 O9 G0 X0 E0
Unlikely to get 4 upgrades...

Isn't it already too late to ask for upgrades on the LHR-DXB leg?

Thanks. We are in Y+, so perhaps there is still a little hope if J pax are upgraded up to F.

I think we can apply for upgrades up to T- 24?
