PLEASE INCLUDE DATE, FLIGHT NUMBER, ORIGIN & DESTINATION IN ALL REQUESTS
>>>> ADDED BY ADMIN (6 Sept 2010) <<<<

Background to this thread
We have noticed an increase in the posting of questions about seat availability on specific flights. These are all valid questions and we all appreciate the efforts our members go to to provide answers.

The only drawback is that our forums can become "cluttered" with specific questions about availability on specific flights. This tends to reduce the overall usability of our site.
We have therefore created this new consolidated thread where you can ask questions about seat availability on specific flights. Hopefully, this will reduce clutter and improve useability.

Guidelines for posting in this thread
Please post questions about availability of specific flights or upgrade probability in this new consolidated thread. Be sure to include the airline, flight number, date, origin and destination and any other relevant detail.

When answering questions, please include the original question. This will assist in readability and management of the thread.

Thanks!

See this thread for hints on how to read loadings:

If looking for, say Qantas points upgrades, look for A class for First, mid to high D or any I class for Business and any R for Premium Economy.

Look for the most expensive category of the cabin YOU are currently booked in as being sold out e.g. J0 to first, W0 to Business & Y0 to PE for increased op-up chances. Also, look for availability on the discount premium buckets (A, P, I, D, U, T & Z inventories).

Conversely, look for high numbers in the discount economy buckets (N, O, Q, E & X inventories) for reduced op-up chances.

Seat maps can be a VERY rough guide but note that just because a seat is not showing as allocated does not mean that seat hasn't been sold. Not everyone pre-selects seats.

Original thread title: update on QF93 on 12 sept

Appreciate it if someone could check EP for loadings.

People complain when fuel prices go up during the holidays but seem to be quiet when airline fares go up during the same period.
I am not quiet but no one listens. It would appear most people accept school holiday pricing.

It is a joke that on Thursday airfares are $410 and on Friday shoot up to $757 or more.

As an example my last 3 Qantas flights in September were half full. To me that would suggest something seriously wrong with pricing. No?

Here you go:

DRW-SYD 23/9: J4 C0 D0 I0 Y9 B0 H9 K9 M0 L0 G0

SYD-DRW 25/9: J6 C1 D0 I0 Y9 B1 H9 K0 M0 L0 G0

Now I am really starting to stress out, updated numbers above and -T17 until departure, upgrade still showing as requested.....

Am I overthinking things or is this just not going to happen?

with upgrades I find that it's better to assume the position of non aspirational poverty.Though its can be difficult when a more expensive aspirational ticket is purchased to enter into the semi random lottery.

Its not over until the seat belt sign goes on. Semi random but higher possibility due to WP status.

Hi

Im flying as below, Class S, applied for upgrade by points, what is the chance?
Sat 24 Sep 1613:50Sydney18:35Jakarta (Soekarno Hatta International)Qantas flightQF41

Thank you in advance

Looking like a very full flight in both classes... I'd say marginal at best.

Here's the current load: J3 C0 D0 I0 Y5 B0 H0 K0 M0 L0 G0

May I suggest to all the upgrade aspirants:

Can you please feed back here about your upgrade success (or otherwise). Would be very interesting
Please include Tier Status, fare bucket and when upgrade was notified.

Is is possible for someone to please check the loadings for:
EK764 SYD-AKL tomorrow (23/9) and also
EK761 AKL-MEL on Sunday (25/9)?

Many many thanks.

Certainly, although those flight numbers are actually for DXB-JNB flights! I'm assuming you've booked the Qantas codeshare of the Emirates flights SYD-AKL and AKL-MEL?

QF8764/EK412 on 23/9: F4 A4 J7 C7 I7 O7 P4 Y9 E9 R9 W9 M9B9 U9 K0 H0 Q0 L0 T0 V0 X0

QF8761/EK407 on 25/9: F4 A4 J7 C7 I7 O7 P7 Y9 E9 R9 W0 M0B0 U0 K0 H0 Q0 L0 T0 V0 X0

I'm guessing that you're hoping for an op-up from Y to J? Probably not that likely on the way over, but the return AKL-MEL flight does look reasonably full in Y. Having said that, you can never really be sure with Emirates. They use yield management in a way that's different to most other airlines.

Thanks for working that out Mattg! I am indeed on the QF codeshares, already booked in J outbound and F inbound; was looking at gauging my likelihood of keeping my assigned seat numbers!
Currently booked in 22G/H in J and 6E/F in F but only Silver status so we'll see. Will hit SG on the return flight.

Hi are you sure about being in F with row 6 as on all the EK aircraft I know of there is no row 6 in F and is usually J? :D

Hi everyone,
Just advising, I flew QF172 tonight and received business upgrade, at the gate, Seq50, QF Silver. I requested points upgrade months ago however, at the moment, no points have been deducted off.
Word from the crew is that I received upgrade due to a no show/late charge

Hpefully you got one of those coveted operational upgrades where no points are deducted. Did the boarding pass reader beep?

It came through T-8hrs

The dark arts of yield management. I can never get my head around it. I suspect it's partly to do with price elasticity. Cheap fares purchasers tend to be price elastic and will buy only when cheap but expensive care purchasers are price inelastic and will purchasing decision is not based on fare. There is obviously a distribution either side. The cheap and early purchasers are probably long gone if they have not purchased close to departure and the only type of passengers are the ones not necessarily with lots of money but are happy to buy one at whatever price. So I suspect the price elasticity curve changes the closer to the flight and also differes from fare bucket to fare bucket

I dare say airlines in general are trying to push the upper boundaries of their price elasticity curve lately. If a passenger buys a ticket for $x, would that same passenger have bought the same ticket if the fare was an additional $y?

Could someone kindly check QF73 Syd to SFO on 5 Oct? Looking to upgrade classic award in Y to J for 2 pax. Am Platinum but not sure if we will be lucky! Thanks
