First reward flight SYD-LHR. Are my expectations too high?

This is not going to end well. Please be nice.
It will end fine. I am all charm and BS when required.

I will work the system - see previous post- and I will eat and drink QF1 empty as revenge.

My expectations have been tampered and as I've said, anything above J service will be great.

Definitely expect little and then be nicely surprised. Have a great trip. Working the system is recommended practice.

Unfortunately, they will run out of everything you want far sooner than you imagine. They may not even have loaded it in the first place. And I'm sure that you know how awful the chapagne is in the SYD F lounge beforehand. Maybe as an F flyer you might get something slightly better.

But in any case do enjoy it.

  • Consult one of our Sommeliers in the Lounge, about which fine Australian award-winning wines and champagne you’d like to match your meal.
I may be a bogan from the south side of the tracks but I know how to ask for nice stuff. I know what the junk is they give a Plat so I will be critical of the real F stuff.
Same on the plane. Only bring me a nice Cab Sav from SA my good man

Good luck!

Most significant carrier rule. The most significant carrier determines the checked baggage allowance across your journey. That’s pretty much an international standard, so applies to many airlines.

The rule doesn’t apply to hand luggage however. So that’s why there’s a difference!

Makes sense because some airlines have no weight limits for hand luggage, so other airlines don’t want to be on the hook for that, either cost wise or safety wise.
MSC does not apply, even for checked luggage, as Jetstar is not a member of IATA.

However, Qantas/Jetstar appear to allow their own exceptions when Jetstar travel is involved.

(lets be nasty and do it in the little First waiting area
It's a good as any area to do it.

That said my last F flight checkin in for QF81 over school holidays (with QF35 out at around the same time) the queue for QF SYD First check-in started outside the box with four families of 4-6 in front of me

Huh? Sorry @moa999 but I’m not following your point here. QF35 departs from Melbourne, how would it affect check-in for QF81?

Agree, but they do apply it for travel and connections between their international partner airlines when travel is on the one ticket. I have a JQ/AY coming up and the AY baggage allowance is applied.

Running update;
NoStar check in lady agreed the carryon was silly. Having checked allowance match QF but JQ carry on rules causes a lot of issues (dare I say yelling at staff) she informed me. Please complain she said, they may change. It's Qantas I said, they don't care. She said yes thats true.

NoStar actively weigh and tag bags at the gate. But knowing how to rort systems I cheated; they do it prior to boarding, so this little black duck just removed my laptop and earphones in the lounge, trundled off to the gate, smiled at my 5.3Kg bag, got tagged then returned to the lounge and reversed the off-loading process.

Checked luggage. Now this is where this whole Nostar to QF deal sux.
JQ have given us 50Kg as checked allowance.
This equates to a Bronze or no-one travelling in First. I am Gold, missus is on the cusp of Gold so we ought to have 62 and 66 Kegs respectively.
Again, this is a ridiculous situation where we are disadvantaged through no choice of ours. Both check in bags were 25 Kg so we will need to deplete them for the next set of flights ex LHR which will be fine as my backpack will come out and we'll share the load.

Again, just a stupid arrangement.

For those of you telling me JQ is JQ and not QF;
You can book a JQ flight on the QF website
You can receive QFF points for a JQ flight
You can enter a QF lounge travelling on a JQ flight

If I can do all these things why cannot I not receive my QF bag allowances?

But you chose the JQ connection, so you’re bound by the JQ contract of carriage.

The relationship between QF and JQ is not unique when it comes to partnership benefits… just look at VA… they have partners where you can sometimes earn points, sometimes have lounge access, sometimes get extra baggage, or sometimes get only one of the above.

Additional baggage allowance based on status across airlines not in an alliance is rare.

Actually no I did not.
I think readers are missing the point here; When we booked this flight the only flight available was JQ as it was on a Sunday and QF did not fly Sundays out of HBA. It was either take a flight the day prior, which would have meant additional cost and effort to get that done, or sit with the JQ option.
I was not told by QF when booking that all this guff would be involved.
Since the booking, QF started Sunday services.
I tried so many times over the past 8 months to have the JQ flight changed to the QF flight it hurts.
One day was 10 calls in a row, consistantly getting SA.
Every time I was refused seats in any cabin on QF.
I tried everything I could to have this flight changed and right up till check in opened neither JQ nor QF would tell me what our bag allowances were.

So, I am firm in my statement - Qantas booked this, Qantas did not assist in changing to QF flights and I expect that my total journey would have the same luggage allowances as QF.
Note nowhere have I stated I wanted an F experience with JQ.

And we are not talking different airline alliances - we are discussing a subsidary of QF that offers some benefits so I don't see your point.

I’m still interested to find out if in fact it’s true that QF did not fly on Sundays between hobart and sydney at the time of your booking. I did a bit of research here on AFF and HBA-SYD flights are listed as two or three times daily, every day of the week, except saturday, which was one flight.

It’s possible you came up against the hard block on domestic connectors where the domestic connector isn’t offered as part of the initial booking? That is, QF has to have been willing to sell HBA-LHR as a single award, rather than HBA-SYD and SYD-LHR.

I agree. We booked to fly to Hawaii next month. On JQ connection to Sydney. Even with continuing with JQ onwards you still have to collect bags and recheck in Sydney. I cancelled and rebooked with Qantas all through. It's not like JQ are cheap these days.

Consider yourself lucky you even got an email from the First Host. I'm Platinum, have flown QF F multiple times, never had a single interaction with a First Host, to the point that I figured they were an urban myth because they must have been hiding in plain sight.

Just tried a dummy booking for next Sunday, only JQ to connect to QF1. When booking online however it does say travel with JQ will be different….

Unsure. The F flight was a Platinum request and then I added the HBA to it, at the same time. So, in my eyes it is one fluid booking.
It was at the end of my Plat year and I was requalifying. I did notice my calls never went to Hobart as they did prior.

Who knows what bs I was given.

Anyway we are boarded in row 28. Next stop T1
