First Qantas A220 revealed

Next flight I take on one I'll try my phone without the case to see if that's any better.
So to answer myself...

I was on The Green Tail today and dutifully removed my case and let my S24+ snugly sit in the wireless charger area. It indicated a charge as before, but it really did not make any difference and I was not getting any battery joy from it. OTOH, USB-C port was perfect :)

incidently same phone charges just fine via a sanmy wireless pad (25W iirc).

So, case made no difference.

The Samsung wireless charging is 15w fwiw.

But yeah, I love wireless charging at home, but on aircraft it's a bit of a gimmick. Especially crammed in that small space where you have no chance of getting optimal alignment for your phone. Does the Qantas one have a grippy material to stop your phone from sliding around? I tried the ones on the Finnair Airlounge seat and whilst I could get them to work, any minor disturbance would cause my phone to slip off.

Maybe once Qi2 is more widespread, it would actually work decently in aircraft (15w + magnetic alignment, like Apple Magsafe).

No grippy, but there is a lip around in a rectangle shape. My 6.7" S24+ fits snugly. Dunno if it would take much bigger tbh (which is a limitation also imo)

but a phone would not slide out at least.

I guess the issue with it being snug is that your phone might not necessarily align well with the coil, since there's no room to adjust.

Well there was a little but of give but not a lot. Again the phone gave the "ccharging"indication. I tried both orientations of the phone but no real difference.

Anyway the USB-C worked great!

Booked on 1277 this morning. They moved me to 1275 when I got to the airport (because 1277 was delayed since last night. Then 1275 got a delay while in security line)

Asked if both 220s were working, agent reply was "you heard about that 😅"

My A220 and 737 flights between MEL and CBR on 23 and 24 June have both been swapped to 717. Flight number for the first flight is still A1276 despite not being on an A220.

I certainly booked one of those flights specifically so I could try out the A220 for the first time, but I ultimately got an unexpected opportunity to try out the A220 when Bonza collapsed on me last month. Very pleasant plane to fly on. Not too disappointed to be on a 717 though, haven't flown them too often and this probably may be my last chance.
