G`Day,

First/Priority Baggage Tags....Do They Work!!!!

In my experience, generally they are a joke, it seems to me that most bags tagged “First” or “Priority” arrive last or mixed in with other baggage and never first out (especially when you are in a rush….sods law).
The worst airport in my opinion is BKK, the best SIN with SYD, MEL and LHR in mid field.

Out of interest what are other members experiences?

Kind regards, Traveller F

The only time I have ever had first tags (recent upgrade SYD-BKK) my bag was out with the first group of fellow first class bags. So no complaints there.

Generally seems to work ok for me as long as the GA actually puts business class tags on (as an SG) rather than priority tags.

Naturally some flights have so many priority/business tags (think CBR in peak hour) that a bag with no tag is unique.

Well... Never really had any problem before. I mean in MEL, HKG, LHR....
Always have my business priority tag and 2 of my luggage will always arrive within the first 5-10mins.

Also it doesn't get mixed with other non tag baggage...at least mine
Did you check-in at the last minute or something?
Which airline are you talking about?

For the most part they work... and in HKG recently i had to wait for fellow travelers non tagged bags.... 15 minutes extra !

Last two times i have had to check baggage (one with J tags the other with priority tags) they took ages to come out...

I've had mixed experiences overall, but lately it has gotten worse, hence why i try to travel without.

Hand. Luggage. Only. ;)

Ditto, especially when travelling to LAX, LAS & HNL, however when travelling to SEA & YVR checked baggage is usually required due to extra clothing (winter gear which is bulky) and wet weather gear.

I have found over the past few years HA airlines to be very good when priority tagged, most times the first dozen bags out all have orange tags on them.

QF have been hit and miss for me over the past 9 years, even with the old bright yellow First Class tags.

While my bags are hardly ever in the early group, when I do have tags they do come out a lot quicker than not having tags.

Mixed results for me. Suppose what soft of mood the luggage handlers are in. I'm only a QP member but have got Business tagged on my luggage a few times. Hasn't made a difference though.
Been lucky and had it come out first, and last...

OP did say First/Priority so i assumed they meant Frist/Business/Priority.
Your probably all right the priority tages are not much use, my bags always get taged First or Business and since most of my international flights have F even if i am in whY then it seems to work well.

Two questions intertwined here:

1. Are they applied in the first place?

As an SG, I should get priority (orange) tags, but so far I have only a 70% hit rate. If travelling in J, I get the Business (magenta) tag all the time - not a single miss.

As a WP, the benefit is "First tags on international flights": does this apply even if the flight you are on has no F? Does that mean that if the international flight has no F you get Business tags instead?

2. Do they work?

This is where it gets more spotty. Generally if I have Business tags then yes they do work. If I have priority tags it's a mixed bag. Usually I find the belt comes out with Business tags first, then a bunch of priority tags, then after that it's pretty much random.

I think there was only one time I was Business tagged but about 10 items or so that had priority or no tags at all came out before the Business tagged bags came out. 'Twas an odd sequence.

I recently flew First from LHR to NRT ex T5 and the only luggage that actually made it to Japan was the First......... a glitch lost every other poor sods gear.

Simple answer is no, if the flight has first you get Business tags instead. Thats hidden int he rules somewhere.
95% of the time as a WP i get the F or J tags, only domestic have i got priority tags.

If transiting HKG on CX flight out has anybody noticed that CX often will re-priority tag your bag with there F tags when they do the bags transfer. Happened a few times but not all the time. Was execpected but had the desired results :)

I thought SG's get Business tags for checked luggage? I try to avoid checking anything where it's reasonable to do so, but I've always received Business tags when I do.

Amen to that. I haven't found that bag tags make any real difference - Murphy's law dictates that when you're in a hurry, your bags will come out last.

We should get them according to the Qantas web site.

Evan (or someone else), could you please clarify. Do you mean "if the flight has NO first you get . . ."? I have the same query as a WP travelling internationally on a two class QF flight.
