Hi All,

I received my only op-up ever yesterday, due to the cancellation of QF507. I was booked BNE-SYD in whY, and had a points upgrade to J on SYD-HKG connecting. Qantas put me on an earlier flight to SYD and allocated me a seat in J! So J all the way to HKG :) I am yet to see the flight posted in my ff activity statement however, even though the SYD-HKG sector has already appeared.

I don't know what's going on with QF.. I got my first one this week too SYD-SFO

That was on an O fare which cost me $440 ish

Don't ask and do what I do, accept it with a big smile and move along.

Pardon my ignorance people, but what's an op-up?

Operational Upgrade. Basically a free upgrade to a higher cabin or class of service given to someone for operational reasons (eg plane changes occured, flights are overbooked, service recovery for a previous incident etc etc)

Jenny and I had one to PE, SIN from MEL yesterday; was showing 9's in premium classes and Y had the 0-5 flux for the last three weeks.

I probably only missed out by one row i think last night... The other guy got it... Op-Up to J

A 767 (ex-BA -336) was substituted with a QF 767 (-338) in international config. I would have been a seat that did not exist and the other person who had go op-up'ed. Doh, oh well could hardly complain a nice flight and free seat beside me.
Felt like asking if i could buy duty free from in-sky shopping ;)

Must be a good time for Op-Ups I'd say. I had one from Sydney to LA and then another back from LA to Melbourne in April.

I'm hoping I'll get lucky on my next trip Sydney to Buenos Aires. I'm guessing it will be a 2 class 747.

Guess how many QFF (and other Airlines) passengers in BUS were drawn in by their first op-up !! That wass my first look at J or BUS and they know the fact - once you taste the good life it is hard to go back to cattle !!
Still, enjoy it when you can, and if it's free - it tastes even better !! Thats my philosophy.:!:

A few but at a guess the number is not as high as one would think.

The majority of people cannot afford to travel in premium cabins so WHY is the only option. On an aircraft we are all cattle....

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Nice to see QF op-uping their elites - guess in lean times, it makes good sense to create some extra happy elites and thus their continued patronage of the QF in the near and continued future.

It will be interesting to see how well my new WP card fares over the next few weeks.

Makes me wonder whether I should bother with points upgrades at the moment ;) Snagged one for MEL-SYD lateish on Monday night (8PM out of MEL) and planning to be back in MEL the following week...

I've not had an op-up for a few months, prior to that I was getting them quite regularly (once or twice a month).

CNS-SYD was my almost predictable op-up, 3 out of 4 I would get upgraded.

Haven't flown this leg for a while and don't seem to get upgraded anymore... :(
