Hi

What routes are Cathy, BA and Qantas still operating a first class cabin on.
I am trying to plan a trip and am finding it difficult.

Thanks

From what I can gather from recent press, Qantas doesn't want its passengers to fly in First Class.

Have you considered a business class RTW which with good flight selection (ie avoiding the 3 class trans continental flights) will book into First Class for routes within USA?

To/From Australia, CX does not offer First Class. They offer First Class on all 747 routes, some 777 routes. So that is quite a few Europe routes and all USA routes. They have some 3-class services on routes like NRT and BKK (and a few others).

BA has First Class on all 747 routes and most 777 routes.

QF offers First Class to LAX and JFK (SFO losing F soon) and most London flights (QF29/30 MEL-HKG-LHR is dropping F at least temporarily until June). QF also has F on some SYD-HKG flights.

I am assuming that you are talking FF seats. In that case BA and CX are both still offering F seats, although CX is usually acquired by phoning the Qantas FF Centre.

It is rumored that QF will only be offering F on the A380, which means that there will be no FF seats available on QF. They were rare before, now probably non existent.

With that in mind BA F seats will go fast. When the new BA First is up and running, then even BA F availability may diminish as well (although it will take up to two years for a full roll out)

If you are a paying customer you have plenty to choose from other then QF BA and CX.

Qantas has no embargo on selling frequent flyer seats in First on the A380. Although they may be rare, there is certainly no policy (á la Singapore Airlines) against it.

I thought Singapore did offer FF seats (albeit at a much higher rate) for it's "premium" first class? Of course, like Qantas, technically speaking it is free to allocate seats, but finds it hard to bring itself to do so ;)

Singapore offers no First/Suites seats for Krisflyer redemption on the A380. On the 777-300ER, A380 and A345, no Saver Business is available. The alternative is priced at double the saver rate. Same goes for First on the 77W.

Wow..

I am sort of glad I am not a Krisflyer then. Mind you I have enjoyed the "old" F product a couple of times going from SIN-LHR, is that comparable to QF redemptions for F seats?

CX does not have first class cabins ex Aus but they will still sell you a F fare to HKG, including the option to take a JQ flight in economy - without any fare reduction - bargain! To be fair they do indicate the cabin status, but one wonders if anyone has taken the offer up :)

QF has yet to confirm the loss of F to NY but apparently tech staff news indicates an A330 will operate LAX-JFK from July 5, while still a rumour for us none QF staff members, its something to consider for trips in the planning stage should it prove to be fact.

Generally, if you can get the Saver redemptions, they are much, much better value than QFF. However, there are less and less routes with Saver redemptions available. For example, starting later this year, there will be zero First Saver redemptions out of Australia (when the last 777-300 is upgraded). For Business Saver, only one flight a day out of Melbourne and Sydney will have it available. Perth, Adelaide and Brisbane all receive regional aircraft and thus have no embargoes on redemptions.

More and more routes however worldwide are becoming all new aircraft–which means no saver. Most notably, London.
