Hello experienced AFF forum members.

I have just tried to book my first ASA in business class and have finished the call with no booking and some confusion, I would like to check with you guys for your thoughts/advice.

Situation:

Attempted to book a Canberra to Uluru return in Business.

Searched the Classic awards and found available flights, albeit with the Ayres rock - Uluru leg in economy. Search results showed 72k return each.

Rang the number with the page open and ready to reference.

Operator seemed to understand what I was asking since she seemed a little perturbed that I was trying to get SC for a Classic style booking.

First issue was she told me that she could not book through to Uluru because any ASA had to be all in same cabin class, separate bookings would be required??? true/false?????

Second, she marked the bookings in and then told me they would be 132k each person for the Canberra to Ayers rock segments alone, I was under the impression it should be the same as what ever the website quotes in points, I reiterated I wanted the ASA bookings in U class which she assured me she was doing.

At this point I said I would prefer to check with the brains trust on the forum to arm myself with more info, she told me she has been working there for 10years and is fully up to date with all changes that have taken place in recent times.

Do I have the bull by the tail here? I am even in the right ball park or is she correct and the points total she quoted really right, nearly double what the website was showing?

I appreciate all help here.

Thanks.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

To get the points cost down, you pay some in cash. This will reduce the point component of the fare, and you can get it about to the same Classic Award level.
As for your other queries, I shall leave them to the brains trust

As Orphelinus says, you have to specifically say you want to pay minimum points, and they will calculate the cash co-payment based on that.
In the good old days there was a simple slider you could drag left and right, now presumably that still exists but is only available to the telephone booking staff for some strange reason

From my bookings, I get the impression it is not a slider. I think the agents have to input the points manually as normally I have been quoted the all points cost and then when I have asked for minimum points, the agents ask me to nominate the number of points. The system then spits out the $$$, or a 'rack off mate' if the points nominated is too low.

Hi sbc269

Check out post #1856 on: http://www.australianfrequentflyer....am/has-anyone-had-success-call-51720-186.html

Lots of posts in that thread on how to do it.

Good luck. Ask on that thread if you don't understand.

QF don't offer business to AYQ anymore. But you should be able to get J to ASP and then Y to AYQ.
