Finding lost or stolen cameras using a picture taken with it!

Not sure if many are aware but you can locate a stolen/lost camera in a lot of cases using a service on the net that tracks down pictures subsequently taken with it, as a lot of cameras embed the picture with serial number data:

While it wont give you a current location, it may help with recovery in some cases!

Another slightly OT but also good example.

A few weeks ago some of us were in Blenheim for a FT DO. As part of our intense wine tasting schedule we had a journey on the River Queen on the Saturday afternoon. Unfortunately there was a break onboard the night before which delayed our departure slightly.

It seems though that the robbers were not all that smart as they left a camera onboard detailing their activities. Alleged burglars left their photos behind | Stuff.co.nz
