FINALLY! - Citi launching Citi Prestige with Visa Infinite

When I applied a couple of years ago I had just had a couple of really big months at work. Payslips all indicated I was heading towards about 155K for the financial year. They take the two most recent ones and approved me no worries.

Thanks for the response! Will give it a try.

Does anyone have any experience with the $150k income requirement?
Thinking of applying, but last years annual income was just below $150k. This years looking like likely to be over $150k and pay slips to date suggest that.
I assume individual income only?

Yes it's individual only and expect Citi to check this properly (unlike some other card providers). They may even phone your employer as well as asking for payslips. In fact, on one occasion after I provided my documentation, I got a call to say they had phoned "my employer" and been told that nobody by my name works there. It turned out they had googled my employer and phoned a different company with a similar name! I got it sorted out in the end, but this kind of bizarre behaviour seems to be common at Citi, so be prepared to jump through hoops, especially if there is a grey area about whether you meet their criteria.

BTW, what do you mean your income is "likely to be over $150k"? I'm guessing that means your base salary is lower than $150k, but with bonus and/or overtime it might go over $150k? If your situation is something along those lines, I'm honestly not sure how Citi would look at it - they might refuse to take anything other than base salary into account (on the grounds that other income is uncertain). They are notorious for declining applications, sometimes for no obvious reason. That said, the worst that can happen is that they will say no, so it really just depends on whether you are concerned about the impact on your credit score.

Another way to get the prestige is get one of the lower cards, wait until you can increase your credit limit to 30k and then you can switch to the prestige. No salary requirements or checks for this. That’s as long as they offer you the credit limit increase themselves.

Perhaps, but you wouldn't get the Prestige bonus points offer doing it that way, and as I just posted in another thread, I'm not sure if the Prestige is worth having if you're not getting bonus points.

Thanks for the advice. You are exactly right. My base salary is below the $150k, but with overtime and other benefits it is expected to be above $150k. I am concerned about the impact on my credit score. If I was able to apply and had the option to take a lower card as opposed to being declined I would take it, but expect I wouldn't get that opportunity. So the risk may be too big? Not sure if I could phone up for the application and ask the questions direct to avoid the declined application on my credit report?

I see your dilemma. I guess you could phone up, but I really can't put into words how hopeless their call centre staff can be, and how frustrating it is to deal with them. See here for a summary of my most recent experience: Upto 400,000 bonus points with Citi Prestige

Thanks for the update. Given the complications you had, might give this one a miss this time round. Might wait until I have an end of financial year payment summary showing the $150k earned (which will hopefully not be as subjective in their eyes) and hope they run another similar promotion next financial year.

They updated the Australian version of the card with the same look as the US version just a few weeks back. Just wondering, is the card also a metal card now same as the US version.

I have had a few calls from them and done a survey about improving it. All stages I told them the points earn and conversion went from being great to being coughe. I have been given lots of "guarantees" but have a lot of doubt. I have just moved about half over to b2bpay with the Amex Explorer and we will wait and see what happens before renewal next april.

As a data point, have been averaging about $40-50k a month with occassional $200-300k, so the points changes cost me a fortune. I find the rest of the benefits pretty useless.

Called earlier this week to ask about what POTM suggested i.e. get existing card increased to 30K then ask for a product switch. I understand that because its a product switch, you may/may not get the bonus points. Which is pointless to me.

But when I did call I was advised the following:

1.) We would need to do a credit limit increase to 30K, (will require a credit check)
2.) even once my existing Signature card is 30K, it will be handed over to someone to assess whether I will qualify for the product switch.

So I declined as I said that there were 2 maybe's in my quest, and most of all I might not actually get the bonus anyway.

But what was interesting however was I asked if I could get any points (just because). Guy put me on hold and said heres 5K. Its not much but hey better than nothing!

Well, I'm just about to pop across the Tasman next week
$72 in Cafe Vue for dinner boxes then two in the PP lounge before we depart.
Free hotel in Jan worth $250. Half a dozen PP lounges in Europe/USA next May.
2 airport transfers on Asia stop-over on the way back
Am I above the $350 yet????
Total spend on Prestige in past 4 months? ZERO
I'm just keeping it for the perks and putting all my spending through other cards. :)

anyone in recent times being able to get an upgrade from Signature to Prestige AND retain the annual fee free for life?

I heard some may have been able to pull that one off several years ago, but seems unlikely. Just too much free stuff on thisPrestige card to give away for nothing.

Ditto - but add >$1.2K in hotel saving with Pay 3 Stay 4 over last 12mths and it's a no-brainer considering I have not paid 1c in ann fees for 6yrs - I wonder if and when they might wake up?

I would like to know which are the golf courses I can play for free. Can you do me a favour and lending me your 16 digit card number for a minute?

if not..... please go to Citi Prestige Golf
and reply back with the list of golf courses from Australia and Indonesia.

(the page doesnt work with firefox for me)
thanks!

Sorry, TB but I'm not at home and as you'd expect I don't have my Prestige with me...
But thank you for the link to this page - I never could work out which clubs were in the offer.
I will post back on here

I have reapplied for this card again and will get the bonus points despite still owning a Signature card. The points pay for the annual fee for the next 2 years and all the extra are bonuses. Going to Maldives and China for holiday this year so I will use it a bit

Just be careful - the points earn probably isn't worth the 3%+ charge for every transaction. I use the Citi debit mastercard; still good value
