Final flights for the B767

While the 330s are a step up (in Y) for trans-con, it's a shame they're not as nimble as the 767 for a turn around on the triangle.

It is not just the turn around that is limiting the use of A330's on the triangle. Passenger preference for frequency plays a part and of course the competition has changed the scene. Nothing unique to Australia either, most parts of the world busy routes of this duration either see high frequency narrow bodies or low frequency wide bodies.

Per AusBT the QF490 MEL-SYD service on 27 December 2014 will be QF’s last B767 passenger flight.

And the schedule:

Sydney-Adelaide-Sydney: November 3, QF741 & QF752
Brisbane-Perth: November 17, QF651
Perth-Canberra: November 17, QF718
Melbourne-Canberra-Melbourne: November 30, QF822 & QF821
Brisbane-Adelaide-Brisbane: December 9, QF663 & QF656
Brisbane-Melbourne: December 9, QF635
Melbourne-Adelaide-Melbourne: December 17, QF683 & QF686
Melbourne-Brisbane: December 25, QF636
Brisbane-Darwin-Brisbane: December 26, QF824 & QF825
Sydney-Brisbane-Sydney: December 27, QF508 & QF517
Sydney-Melbourne-Sydney: December 27, QF447 & QF490
The QF website is showing QF430 and 434 (MEL-SYD) on the 27th as 767s

The list only shows the last flights for each city pairing, so not surprising that the 767 is doing some runs earlier that day as well

If the 767 is so inefficient compared with alternatives why is it still being bought recently by the likes of ANA etc? Are the modern variants significantly more efficient than those QF operate?

I think that QF is more interested in the $ side.
With the 767, while the plane can carry more, they have to sell more tickets, and have a lot more subclasses of Y and J to sell, but with the 737, the load is smaller, so when the subclasses of Y and J gets sold, they can up the price to the next one.
22x for the 767 seats vs 18x for the 737.
In the end, QF gains by putting a lot of 737s on, with a smattering of 330s, less in number than the 767s that were flying in its hey day of the 1990s.
If QF were really interested, they would put a 330 in as they take out a 767, but no, they are putting a lot more 737s, while taking out the 767s.
Few years ago, they even had 747s doing the PER to east coast flights, now most are 330s, but as has been mentioned by some on here, flying the 737 from PER to the east coast, 18x odd pax (full flight), wow, scary thought. 5.5 hours in a 737. I have only had that once, squashed, AKL to MEL.
But, I guess se la vie, eh?
They have made the decision, and if all these "last" 767s are full when they fly, QF just might know but of course not care, that "some" people, will still choose to fly wide bodied planes, than narrow ones.
Come to think of it though, what with all the job cuts at QF, in the end, there won't be any human left to run the airline, except AJ and his (non humans) robots.

How would we recognise each other on those 767 flights?
Pity we all dont have badges or something.
A special nod and a special wink could be connotated as something else.
Can we get issued a badge before those flights.
I will be the moody pooch sitting down the back (last) row before the final (cry babies-members of the seat kickers row) on the ADL - MEL 767 flight on the 17 Dec 14.

Banger2, if you look at the QF schedules, in the past where a lot of the QF 767s used to fly the route, there are fewer 330s doing it, but a lot of 737s have replaced the planes flight numbers that the 767 used to fly.
Few years ago, QF used to have quite a lot of SYD - MEL and vv 767 flights, now, you can could on one hand, on some days, on two 330 doing the route, but lots of 737s. And I mean lots.
Wish I had taken the QF mag off one of the flights, and see how many 330s QF has now, vs how many 767s.
Like what was the maximum number of 767s QF have had, vs how many 330 they have on hand now.

Post your flight details in the lounge meet thread for December, and see if anyone else is on the same flight.

So i was just about to book a J award, then the option disappeared for QF490 on the 27th :( Looks like its whY for me :/

Update: Flight booked. Am in 27B

I think that's one popular flight. As well as the AusBT article it's also been posted on the Facebook group.
Many familiar faces that evening I think.
Hopefully we will give it a great send off :)

So tempting, but Christmas is already a busy time, I'd have to position to MEL, possibly overnight in SYD to get back to OOL the next day and the actual flight is insanely priced by now :( plus, based on past experiences, the J lounge will be closed for it's Christmas cleaning!

Think I'll have to miss this one.

AFFer are usually pretty easy to spot, but failing that there is always this thread where ppl will post up where they are, plus some of us have each others phone numbers, there are also AFF tags which some members have. Don't worry, there has been many a meetup like this.

For those flying I think it would be appropriate to wear black...

Took my (likely) last QF 767 flight yesterday. 35J a great seat!

iPad didn't work.

/pondering/
What was a state of the art computer when the a/c was built 23 years ago. The iPad probably wasn't even envisioned!
