What are everybody's thoughts on post flight drinks in the J Lounge/Rydges Sydney Airport?

Something something runway view bar.
We have dinner plans so will depend on timing...

A few peeps joining us at the last minute on QF767 :)
QF gave away 3 pairs of tickets at the Facebook group event last night so I hear.

For those interested.. today's rotation is on OGT. well 424/443 anyway. Crew were called last night to work 424 as a late sub - earlier SYD-MEL started it. Glad I went for the earlier flight up :)

Not that I am able to attend the after flight drinks on the 27 Dec, isn't the Rydges Hotel at the QF SYDi terminal, where as that final QF 767 plane will arrive into SYD QFd terminal?
Ergo having to get a taxi or maxicab from SYDd to SYDi and then back again?

For those with big camera lenses and relatively good eyesight, the Rydges offers some of the best views of the runways and taxiways at SYD (unless you're in the F lounge, that is)

Rydges have a shuttle

Well I'm back from my flights today. I really had a good time.

I want to thank QANTAS for 2 very enjoyable flights, but most specially QF443 today (SYD-MEL) where the crew (both cabin and tech) were very kind and indulged me.. specially the guys who very kindly gave me a few minutes of their busy time in the front office post landing in MEL. The two senior guys both are sad to see the 767 go and I definitely got the impression that they would prefer to stay with a Boeing type (personally - as pilots) though it seems transition to 380 second officers is the path (or retirement). One definitely mentioned how much he wanted the 787 in mainline service. I quipped maybe he needed to learn to like orange... he made no comment :D It was also the FO's final flight on the type too.

Every member of inflight crew I spoke to would all miss the 767 as a great plane to work on and fly. I will give some extra credit for customer focused CSM who quipped that the Plats would miss the J cabin because the 73H's only have 12 seats to upgrade into! :D That was an amusing moment (I couldn't disagree given I was upgraded out of a V class fare :) ).

Also of note/interest that OGT is "only" 16 and a bit years old and probably is not so high on cycles given most of its time has been in international service. I honestly thought many of them were older.

I'll add in some photos - the irony of having the "old new" Retro Roo parked at the gate next to the retiring roo in MEL, the lovely single J seats (very comfy for the sector :) ), the "mostly OK sparkling" to celebrate with on 443 and that front office we'll miss.

Thanks again QF for a good day. Sure, you flew me where I wanted on time, but it was the crews who made the difference and I think at least some of them appreciated the interest in the 767 going.

Looking at the recent photos I realise this is the end of the dream time seats ( although they are still used by US airways ).

To me that's a bigger loss than the 763s.

Newk +1 and froggerADL +1 will not be on the flight for one reason or another.
They have most generously given their tickets away so you shall see their "representatives".

Looks like you gave the 767 a great farewell and glad to see that you got to say goodbye (and to the Dreamtime seats also - I will miss them!).

My QF401 will now be a 330, slight consolation its not a 737 (yet).
So b**o*dy sad that it had to happen, I burnt 20,000 QF FF points, some $ for the VA flight MEL to ADL and an over night stay, and someone decided to change the 6am dep of the QF401 to a 330.
Well, thats it then, the end of my run with the 767 would be with (Air) NZ (if they don't change the flight either-SYD to AKL).
Ok, thats thats it then, I won't talk about me missing my last QF 767.
Carry on and I sincerely do hope you lot that are flying on the 27 Dec, do get it, and no swap!
I feel your pain Claudius, I used to pick ADL to MEL and to meet the 767 in past years, MEL to SYD, succeeded several times.

Can you move your VA flight and change to the 409 (7am) which is a 763? Also the 421 at 0930

The 409 is showing U3 even :D

I know it's a FF award, but I'd hope QF would take pity when you explained your situation.

Sadly the 401 isn't the reconfigured 332 either :(

My VA flight from MEL to ADL is not till 14.30 or so, so I can plea with the check in staff at SYD QFd counter.
Will be staying at the Ibis Budget, the one about 10 mins walk from SYD VAd.
QF409 is still showing availability for sale at Aud$155.
Will walk across at 4am to get to SYD QFd maybe 4.20am or so.
Lucky my QP card still has Dec 14 on it.
Will try for the 7am which is brekkie, 9.30am would ge "refreshments" with my pet hate, the tub of tomato relish. You can say don't eat it, but I paid for it via 8,000 QF FF points.
This must be boring bum fluff to a lot of people, my love for the thing is just a plane, a bit of metal. Yair, I know, but I hug her.
Will leave you lot in peace soon, my 6.40pm flight will be boarding soon.
Edit: just maybe someone at QF is worried I might do something stupid.

I wouldn't wait till tomorrow. Call QF res from the ADL QP, or even approach the desk staff (you never know, though I think they'll say it's in res' hands). you've got nothing to lose except a phone call to get it changed now, while you can. And, if they say there's no award avail, ask about business. and hey, you may get a sleep in :)

don't let the dream die.. if it's this important, hopefully QF will understand and take pity. I find they're pretty reasonable when you explain and it's not an outrageous request, and I don't think this is.

here's a thought have you also tried changing online from your bookings?

either way - good luck
