Fiji Airways Business from SYD | Qantas Lounge access

Soon I'm looking at flying Sydney-Nadi in Business Class with Qantas Points on Fiji Airways. Books as an FJ code. I also hold Qantas Platinum status.

I checked the Fiji Airways Lounge access page which indicates Business Class tickets have access to a Qantas lounge in Sydney.

Given the QF Int J lounge is still closed, would I get access to the QF First Lounge based on class of travel? I understand status doesn't technically play a role here.

Interested to hear from anyone who's done the same recently. Thanks

Won't hurt to give it a shot however. Other oneworld (full member) carriers seem to be utilising Plaza Premium, but it's not clear what arrangements FJ have made.

We flew in December. FJ advised if you are not flying on a QF ticket then they will give you a food voucher. I think it was $40 bucks.

Because FJ is (the one and only) OW “Connect” airline, normally QF WP won’t get access to the 1st Lounge on an FJ code (nor J Lounge flying in whY!) but if booked in J, the QF J Lounge is it (when open).

You might get preferentially treatment as a WP but I wouldn’t count on it unfortunately.

As an aside, a few weeks ago I was trying to book a revenue J flight out of SYD to NAN and an award J back (to overcome this problem) and the QF website/app wouldn’t allow the mix. Unlike NZ, USA and a bunch of other countries that you can mix and match award/revenue fares….

I just wanted to share my experience. After reading this article I realised I wouldn’t get lounge access. However, I made sure I put my QFF number into the check-in on Fiji Air’s website.

My ticket came with the Oneworld logo and my Sapphire status printed on, and I figured I’d try to get into the Qantas lounge anyway.

Long story short, it worked. The attendant scanned my ticket and needed me to give my QFF card (as the FJ database apparently only gives the last 4 digits of my QFF number when scanning?) but I got in with my guest as well. QFF Gold in Sydney International Business Lounge, on a FJ-ticketed flight booked through Fiji Airways.

So there you go, it is possible, you may just have to be lucky.

Went earlier this year in J but booked as FJ code, Qantas Platinum. Wasn’t even allowed into the Sydney QF J lounge and Qantas dragon at the front was extremely unfriendly.

Even lectured me rudely that Air Fiji has “no relationship with Qantas whatsoever” which is obviously total BS. So seems to be luck of the draw!

Interestingly it wasn’t. The Qantas Melbourne lady said she couldn’t check me into the Digi flight so we had to transfer in sydney ‘manually’, so to speak.

It’s sounding like I was increasingly lucky from the sound of it!

Not according to this article - I posted earlier and questioned the statement:

“As far as lounges go, Fiji Airways passengers at LAX are spoiled with choice. Fiji Airways officially sends business class passengers to the Star Alliance Lounge, though it’s also possible to use the oneworld Lounge, and since I’m a oneworld Emerald member, I was able to use the Qantas First Lounge.”

As with my experience in Sydney, we had no luck in LAX either at the Qantas Lounge.

Star Alliance or nothing it was for us and that Air NZ operated lounge was a messy zoo that afternoon. Not nice.

Just to add a data point: I booked a J ticket directly with FJ LAX-NAN-SYD.

I was given a Star Alliance lounge pass at check-in, but tried my luck at the QF F lounge anyways and was granted access for and my partner.

The last 4 digits of my QFF number were on my BP and I was asked for my full number at the entrance.
