Feeling Lousy After a long flight

I'm the same, for me though it's always that final leg from MEL / SYD / BNE to CBR. I hate the waiting around for that final short hop, and I hate the landing in at CBR, as I feel a tinge of sadness that my trip is over.

Hugs to you! That short hop is not so short and I feel for you. No wonder you are sad. But I do agree, I will always, always ALWAYS line up for the next one :)

Nothing has worked for us. I tried no champagne , icy vodka and red wine as well as water and it made no difference. Mrscove drinks only water.
We both struggle for 3 or 4 days when we return to Perth from Los Angeles.

Hmm been at altitude a few times (up to 4900m odd) and felt alright. But that was very gradual. Good thought though! I'll try drinking more water again because that's one way to allieviate altitude headaches.

There is no quick solution to Desynchronosis. It will just take time. The more time zones traversed the longer it gets.

Travelling east is usually worse than west - easterly travel advances the body clock which is more difficult to cope with than shortening it.

I’m not sure if the rule of thumb of 1 day per time zone really applies as there is great individual variability and time zones a not uniform in width even though it is supposed to be 15 degrees longitude corresponding to 1 hr per time zone. (There are actually more than 24 time zones).

Light is the most important. All the other remedies are just symptomatic treatment.
Light therapy in a specific wavelength is a possible non pharma treatment.

Yes I have a Re-Timer that I should use more often along with a Resmed sleep machine and a laptop to keep up to date with office stuff. Before too long my carry on is a bit heavy.

My long haul flights have been about 50% economy & 50% pointy end. The first few times I took Restavit (not sure if you can even get them now) but then worked out I can almost never sleep sitting up or with neck on a funny angle, so I just read (Kindles are great) and if I fall asleep, fine. My best trip ever was MEL/CDG flying SA business in a new A380. I slept the entire way from Singapore to Paris. I can't remember a single thing about the flights home as I simply zonked . Heavenly! My days of o/s travel are over but I still dream about that last flight! (You can get the good Melatonin via a naturopath btw)I find Melatonin doesn't put me to sleep but I have a deep and refreshing sleep - without the hungover feeling from chemical sleeping pills. Did I mention champagne is always a good idea

You want to know the secret to surviving air travel? After you get where you're going, take off your shoes and your socks then walk around on the rug bare foot and make fists with your toes.

I know, it sounds crazy. Trust me, I've been doing it for nine years. Yessir, better than a shower and a hot cup of coffee.

I used to suffer from jet lag badly and could never sleep on planes. But then retired and although I went back to work I really enjoy it.So now I can sleep on planes even on short hops plus really don't feel tired so I can fly to LAX,hop in a car and drive an hour or two then still have enough in the tank to do a walk etc.But on those trips I will be going to sleep about 1900 and waking ~ 0400 for a few days.

Last December I did a Friday SYD-JFK and Sunday JFK-SYD. Minimal jet lag. Nice to arrive in evening, dinner and sleep. I’m not sure the Re-Timer helped

By the time I got back my circadian clock was probably only an hour or two out.
