Feedback on the AFF website & brand refresh

Yeah as a designer, the font style really irks me. Why not use a modern San Serif like Pretendard or Inter?

Logo could use a retouch. Colours are ok on the forum side.

The old logo is so much better all I see is Finnair in the new one LOL
Question for the founders. Was the colouring of the old logo Virign (Blue)* and red for QANTAS or was that purely coincidental?

*although technically Virgin has a purple corp colour also!

Also just me, or is tapping the logo on the forum page redirecting me to the landing page and not the forum overview?

I believe it was like that before as well.
Interesting. Don't remember that being the case for me on both mobile and desktop pre-redesign.

Regardless from a UX standpoint, should not be the case. People on the forum do not want to go on the landing page.

I've noticed a vertical alignment issue with fonts in the new AFF Style theme. To illustrate, look at the screenshots below showing the alignment of emojis + text in the Classic theme vs the same in the new theme -:

Vertical alignment in the new theme seems to push align text with the top edge of the text line, whereas it's nicely centred in the Classic theme.

This is illustrated when you highlight/select the text in the Classic theme vs the new theme. Note how the text is actually aligned several pixels higher than the emoji in the new theme, whereas they're perfectly aligned in Classic -:

your eye for detail is excellent @DejaBrew

I’m another person with a request for the font to be larger for better readability, for better contrast in the colours for better readability, and otherwise I don’t really mind the changes too much as I really only look at the forum most of the time. I’m glad to learn how to access the latest news for those times I want to read that. I’m also glad I can revert to classic if I really cannot adjust to the new font.

And thanks for seeking feedback. It’s a big job and of course we all have an opinion.

@DejaBrew Thank you once again (maybe need to find you a job!)

We've passed this onto the team

For all those interested, we've fixed the following:

Text editor toolbar icons have been made actually visible (opposed to being greyed-out)

We now have a functioning search on the main page of the website:

This should allow you to find articles beyond the last few published (as the search function on the old website simply did not work).

For those who mentioned the font size - thank you. We're looking into fixing this (unfortunately not as simple as just increasing the size on a word doc, as it affects formatting across the website).

Also just me, or is tapping the logo on the forum page redirecting me to the landing page and not the forum overview?
Great suggestion @BrianQQ and it's something we would love to change. Unfortunately the XF platform does not allow for this UX.
What we have done based on your advice is change the breadcrumbs to have Forums in the first position, that way clicking forums will get you back to the forum landing page.

Even if font size is problematic to modify, surely colour isn't?

I think you need to test these sorts of things on older eyes and people who need specs to read. Wishy-washy pale grey doesn't cut it. It's too much of a strain.

One weird thing I am seeing is a momentary Alert flag that pops up when I load a page then immediately disappears.
(Actually I did have an unread alert there).. gone when I cleared it.

Colour wise.. agree id prefer black.. would also prefer to lighten the quotes and poster bars, just too much purple grey going on

Not a fan of the logo, but really dont look at that normally anyway.
Purple is ok, old colour was OK...I can read them both.

Unless specifically looking for something I just read the New Posts normally.

I actually think the purple is fine, and the text also. You need to be a bit unique, AFF is a unique site which is why it’s still thriving today.

Good job on the upgrade.
