Looking at tagging along in husband's sept trip to London (he then goes into to Denmark and I will come home )
I can justify it , lol, if we go premium economy . Looking at paying Qantas and possibly trying for upgrades on the way over .
Other alternatives? Looked at mixed class flights ? I vaguely remember that BA used to have 'buy one flight get companion ticket half price " ?

I was on BA15/16 in PE a few months ago and would highly recommend it. I was in a bulkhead seat, which had a huge amount of space. Food and service were good too.

I didn't realise BA had decent seats especially in premium
Weren’t they one of the 1st, with slightly better seat but from memory you still got whY F&B. Looks like the seat is like the old QF Y+ but it better food now also?

Not flown it it, but there are lots of good reports about JL (which is one of few that gives lounge access).

I haven’t seen any reviews yet of EK nor how it’s pricing (or bookable via QF?).

Yeah my Mum & Dad flew BA Premium Economy to the UK circa 2002-ish when my sister was living in London, they were one of very few choices for Premium. Was only a few hundred extra (~$1800 Y plays ~$2200 Y+) and the main thing was the extra pitch so people over 5' tall weren't spending 24hrs with their knees being sliced by the seat in front.
I flew Y+ on CX in 2012 when HK was shut down by a typhoon so ended-up re-booked onto BA, and it was pretty pleasant actually. The food was the same as J, but one less choice for the main meal, and not served as nicely.

I think… on paper at least… Japan Airlines is supposed to have a reasonably good PEY product. It includes champagne and lounge access as standard. The menu however is the same as economy class, and the seats are of a fixed shell variety. Which is either a blessing or a curse, depending on your opinion of those seats! https://www.jal.co.jp/jp/en/inter/service/premium/seat/skypremium.html

Depending on status, BA may have a better lounge at London.

Well, I've booked a bulkhead JL premium Y seat as an award HEL-HND-SYD for later this month (J wasn't available), and from what I've read it's one of the better PY options.

I'm not too fussed about having Y class food, as it's supposed to be quite good on JL, and the extra frills (incl 42" pitch) should be fine.

And in any case, as a OneWorld Emerald, I should be able to fill myself up on decent food/drink prior to each flight.

I'm sure Emirates' premium economy would be pretty good, but every time I've looked it's been very expensive. Also not bookable (yet) with Qantas points.

`Have flown PE with Singapore, BA, Cathay. BA was in the early 2000's so may have changed. But Singapore was the better of the lot.

I have flown Y+ in QF and SQ and both were great. This was pre-pandemic….

The new LH/LX seat looks decent. Has anyone had a chance to try it?

We flew SQ in PE SYD/FCO in Apr/Aug, was just terrible, horrible food same as Economy rough service, seat extreme
y uncomfortabl. Never again with what I consider an over rated airline.

I actually thought that was supposed to be one of the better ones
marketing :)

The seats across all the airlines are relatively uniform in terms of width and seat pitch. The soft product is the differentiator. Some airlines are business ‘lite’ (like qantas), others are economy ‘plus’. I think SQ falls into the latter given their economy meals.

Flew QF PE HKG-SYD pre-CoVID and loved the hard & soft product. The meals were a standout for me, enjoyed their vego fare. Seats were comfy as well, I had a shadow, was able to stretch and overall good experience.
