Re: [fare gone] Yangon to New York, London etc. R/T in C < $800

i dont know if there is going to be that much of a rush of visa applications, there is only so many seats available on a daily basis to Yangon, and this number has not changed. Unless Air Asia and Thai start putting on additional flights suddenly

3K recently increased their flights.

If you paid with a FF CC do you get to keep the points?

Re: [fare gone] Yangon to New York, London etc. R/T in C < $800

There are a growing number of reports on Flyertalk (relating to the most recent round of RGN fares) having been cancelled. From what I can ascertain, they seem to relate to those reservations ticketed on Thai.

How is everyone here going with their bookings?

Had my NH ticketed booking cancelled. Still have one alive and kicking.

Re: [fare gone] Yangon to New York, London etc. R/T in C < $800

That's a lot of work/risk for only $1.44 :D

That's the game we play in getting 'these' fares ;)

It's an interesting read over on FT so am following it with interest.

No payment off the credit card yet, have airline confirmation, no e-tickets after a week.
I think I should ring them.

Judging by comments, I think even if you are ticketed, and no one notifies you, it is still risky, as you could be denied checkin/ boarding at a foreign port.

I think this would be very carrier dependant and would rather see more evidence and less speculation before I judged. Od course I don't have an immediately upcoming flight!!

I planned for Jan 2013.. so I have a while.

In airline terms, the deals not closed until the ticket is issued. You may have a while before travel, but the more time that goes by from the closure of this loop hole will make it harder to get it issued at this fare level. Once issued, you are Golden with nothing to worry about. If you have a confirmation e-mail showing the price but have not been charged yet, it would be advisable to call and get them to actually take the money. Once money has changed hands, the deal has closed. Until that time, lots of outs they can use on their end to prevent this fare from being used

I wish I shared your optimism.

There are a few of us on this thread who have e-tickets and similar confirmation details, including charged credit cards, but the uncertainty continues. The Korean Air case of a few months back, where the airline arbitrarily cancelled tickets two months after confirmation, adds to the concern. There are also reports on Flyertalk of the odd person having got e-ticket numbers and having their card charged, but receiving an email saying the ticket is cancelled. Some are also posting that the airline would be within its rights to do nothing and simply deny you boarding on the day of travel. Very scary.

While I certainly agree that the passenger is in a much better position once they have an e-ticket and money has exchanged hands, I'm not convinced this is enough to go off and pack my bags, even almost four weeks since it all transpired.

Depends on the governance in place in terms of jurisdiction, applicable laws etc, such sweeping statements such as yours are irrelevant in that context. Given the nature of this promotion and lack of consumer laws in general for Burma, its far from being a done deal with the chance of recourse based on contractual law being negligible to non existent.

Re: [fare gone] Yangon to New York, London etc. R/T in C < $800

I have always had the tickets numbers, but now the credit card has been charged. But travel is in Sep, will wait another month or two before booking flight to RGN and organising a Visa (but at least it is only matter of an MI redemption or 3K fare from SIN, so worst case scenario is a weekend in RGN, no big deal when origin is SIN. I can imagine it might be more of an issue for people travelling 8+ hrs to start the journey). Having only booked the MI/SQ fares on the MI website, I am more confident than if I had a multiple airline itinerary booked through an online agent.

Is there anyway to view the MI/SQ booking if you do not have a KrisFlyer account?

I don't believe so, no. I just joined KrisFlyer and then was able to view it that way. That said, the SQ website was updated around October apparently and functionality isn't that great. Even when I log into my account I can see the booking but that's it. Reports on Flyertalk suggest this is the new norm unfortunately.

I don't know what GDS thingy MI/SQ uses so I don't know of a third party website (like checkmytrip) that would allow you to look it up either.

I believe they are on Abacus, which is itself hosted on Sabre these days.
