Famous people seen (or even met) whilst flying or lounging

I always enjoy not noticing a famous person when they think they should be.

I hate it when they catch me looking at them because I've mistakenly thought they were a friend or acquaintance. It's always that split second that it takes me to realise my error before I can look away that I'm caught  (and they're usually C-list at the very best)

Katie Price - out of Buenos Aires in Apr this year. Directly in the queue in front of me on boarding. Quite noticeable in the lounge of course (especially when speaking loudly on the phone in her strong chav accent), but surprisingly people either didn't seem to notice or didn't care. I know celebrities always say they love being able to be just like a "normal" person, but I did wonder whether she was slightly bothered that no one seemed to notice her.

And for those of who do not avidly follow the artist formerly known as Jordan - a link to the Wiki on her/them (you will understand the them if you click the link which is SFW) Katie Price - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Saw Jennifer Hawkins this morning at the Wagga airport (of all places) waiting for her flight. She's been in the Riverina doing a photo shoot apparently ... so the local paper tells me: Hawkins delights Narrandera fans - Local News - News - General - The Daily Advertiser

She certainly is a very attractive young lady :)

... though she didn't do her stereotype any favours when she tried to board the Qantaslink flight with a Rex boarding pass

When still living in South Africa I happened upon Nelson Mandela while leaving the bar (me not him) and heading for my flight. I went up and shook his hand and wished him well. He told me that "that together we will build a new nation". I didn't think that was the right time to tell him I had one way tickets to Australia.

Many years ago, while a TN employee, my favourite hotel was the Regent in Melbourne. One lunchtime, I ate right next to Pele. He wasn't at our table, but the next one. Unfortunately I can't speak Portugese!

Another time, while in Chicago, I had a personal 5-10 minute audience with Dan Quayle. He was, I believe, the governor of Illinois or Indiana at the time, and not long afterwards became US vice president. (And contrary to mainstream media opinion, he seemed a highly intelligent, humble bloke!) This brush-with-fame was courtesy of Continental Airlines, and it's fleet of DC10s. :D

Just don't ask him to spell 'potato'.

The* Spiderbait. Just now SYD T3 J lounge. I guess they are supporting the Foos.

* They are really just Spiderbait. Tim Fischer when asked about his favourite band, after revelling that he listens to the Js, famously called them "The Spiderbait". Some less than generous people would see this as a point of ridicule, but I think it is great as does SWMBO. In fact it redeemed Fischer in my eyes from his National tendencies, that, and the train loving.

Having met Tim Fischer there is more to like than his love of Spiderbait.I once recognised him in a hospital I was working at.it was during an Election campaign. He was visiting the sick wife of a NP worker. He asked that i did not tell the media of his visit as he didn't want them intruding on the woman's privacy.A genuine fellow.

Speaking of the genuine former DPM. Just saw Lord Downer outside the ADL QP. Man he is grey.

BTW drron I like Tim for "the spiderbait" because he was genuine enough to stand up in parliament and say he listened to the Js with his kids. (rather than Alan jones or similar nut bag)

Sent from my iPhone using Aust Freq Fly app so please excuse the lack of links.

Also saw Jennifer Hawkins a couple of weeks ago, but in the Brisbane DJ terminal... and saw XZibit tonight (rapper and host of Pimp My Ride) in the same place... surprisingly, neither of them had lounge access?? haha

Well, you could have used your +1 to get them into the DJ Lounge & make some new friends :)

Haha I could have done a +3 (1 as Gold and using 2 complimentary lounge passes), however they were both travelling with entourages larger than that. :( ... I'll have to keep that in mind for next time I spot someone lounge-worthy though ;)

Saw Wayne Swan getting explosive tested by security at Melbourne Qantas Domestic on Tuesday morning. He didn't look too bothered by it. The security guy clearly had no idea who he was testing.

A former colleague of mine used to be one of the FA's (or whatever rank they called that position) on the RAAF VIP fleet & Tim Fischer was his fave pollie. :p

Current terminology appears to be the somewhat ambiguous Crew Attendant (CREWATT). That's at some remove from the 1970s, when Flight Steward - replete with brevet - was the go.

For those who are UFC fans :D, whilst we were waiting at LAX for our flight to LAS in November (the day after the Velasquez/Dos Santos fight), we spotted cut man "Stitch" so went over and said Hi - he was really friendly, and we had a long chat about the previous UFC bouts in Australia, upcoming plans for more visits and he was also asking all about where we were from, where we were travelling to and what our holiday plans were. It was also a good chance to find out the result of the Cain/Junior fight, as we'd been travelling from Perth since the day before, so we'd missed it!! We saw Carlos Condit and Greg Jackson coming through the airport as well.

The OH (who has always been a Ford fan) got the chance to "hassle" (his words LOL) Craig Lowndes at the DJ lounge in Sydney on our way home.

A few years ago now, but Rod Stewart and Rachel Hunter at Miami flying to LHR and a van full of Louis Vuitton luggage
