F Lounge Access with Plat

Re: F Lounge Access wtih Plat

Without trying to hijack this thread, I'm doing a PER-SIN-PER on JQ ($300 return, thanks to their launch sale) in December. Being a QP member, I should be allowed to access the lounge with 1 guest (my Mother )?

QP members flying JQ domestically can access QP lounges; normal QP guest rules apply:
Flying with Us - Qantas Club - Lounge Access
Qantas Club said:
img_qc_cards.gif

Member and 1 guest can access lounge on day of departure. +(Must be travelling on a Qantas, British Airways or Jetstar flight number.) Guest does not need to be travelling.

It seems QP members have no QP/J access when flying JetstarAsia.

I have just received a reply to a query I sent last week. IMHO it's a bit contradictory and unclear about some aspects.

However it seems that when flying JetStar Asia out of SIN, the "AnyTime" QP/J lounge access is invoked for WP's. Presumably SG's have NO access to any QF lounge in these cases:

Hello <serfty>

Thank you for your follow up email seeking clarification with regards to Jetstar and Jetstar Asia.

JetstarAsia operating flights to different parts of Asia out of Singapore. The airline has different restrictions to Jetstar regarding lounge access and points. Lounge access is not available to Qantas Club members when travelling on Jetstar Asia. When travelling on Jetstar Asia members are only able to earn frequent flyer points

When travelling on StarClass or Jetflex fares on Jetstar, members will have access to Qantas operated lounges. Qantas Club members travelling on Jetsaver or Jetflex fares will continue to have access to the Qantas Club when travelling on flights operated by Jetstar Airways.

However, <serfty> due to your Emerald oneworld status, you are able to access the Business Class Lounge. I have telephoned the First Class Lounge in Singapore and have confirmed you do not have First Class Lounge access. The Singapore Lounge is operated jointly by Qantas and British Airways and to have access into this lounge you must be travelling onwards with a oneworld carrier.

Jetstar Asia is a member of the Qantas Frequent Flyer Program but is not part of the oneworld alliance.

I hope that clears up any misunderstanding you might have between Jetstar Airways and Jetstar Asia

Yours sincerely

Re: F Lounge Access wtih Plat

Thank you, serfty, for posting the email. Hubby is flying with Jetstar Asia today SIN to BKK. I will let forum know which lounge he gets in. He is a Plat.

The other bit about earning FF points, I will tell him to ask Jetstar Asia if he will get any point for this flight - maybe not, because his ticket is the cheapest one.

Re: F Lounge Access wtih Plat

I'm on JQ110 which doesn't appear to be Jetstar Asia, but Jetstar Airways so I guess I should be OK then.

That would be my take, JQ in and out of SIN, so should get access.

Re: F Lounge Access wtih Plat

I think JQ is Jetstar. And Jetstar Asia is 3K - not the normal 2 alpha characters.

However it seems that when flying JetStar Asia out of SIN, the "AnyTime" QP/J lounge access is invoked for WP's. Presumably SG's have NO access to any QF lounge in these cases:

All part of the Qantas/Jetstar identity crisis that they have. The T&C's are riddled with contradictions over JQ/3K/VF, as are lounge access rules etc. For example, the T&C's of the scheme refer to "'Jetstar Airlines" as one happy family (JQ/3K/VF) and the Lounge access rules only talk about "Jetstar".

They really don't have a clue at times.

Re: F Lounge Access wtih Plat

Hubby is in business class lounge - not F lounge. He said food appeared to be limited but he tried to eat up as he does not want to buy food on the plane. He asked about FF points with Jetstar Asia, the check-in staff said no, because his flight is not from Australia!

Tell him to keep his BP's, the very least my reply email indicated concisely that QFF points could be earned - although presumably on Flex fares ...

Thank you, serfty. Will tell him to keep BP.

Re: F Lounge Access wtih Plat

Hubby said the flight from SIN to BKK with JetstarAsia was very funny. It is an all economy class plane. Before the flight took off, an announcement was made asking 15 pax to move to the back of the plane to balance the weight of the plane so it could take off. Then before the flight landed the captain reminded the pax that the door to the coughpit is bullet proof  Hubby said the seat pitch was so tight that if he was any taller his knees would touch his chin! Fortunately that was the only Y leg of hubby's trip. The rest will be in J.

Re: F Lounge Access wtih Plat

Yes points can be earned on Jetstar Asia in JetFlex fares. I fly SIN-BKK-SIN a lot and I receive 1794 points 1 way, I am platinum and I also get 30 SC's which is great. The planes are the same as Jetstar use in domestic but have a divider in row 1 to separate the FA's from row 1. JetFlex always gets row 1 or emergency exit and is rarely full, expect today was completely full. I have never had 1 issue with them in over 10 flights and they use western pilots. The service is great but the only downside is no lounge access in BKK unless you catch the 8pm flight but you do get J lounge access in SIN, but not F lounge.

Is this not in contradiction to the QF website on lounge access which states (Flying with Us - Qantas Club - Lounge Access), for international first lounge and membership type platinum "Member and 1 guest can access the lounge when travelling on a Qantas, Jetstar or oneworld flight.# Guest must be travelling with member."

I'm considering the JQ sale fares from Perth to Singapore next February and, whilst I understand I'll have normal business lounge acccess in Singapore, I'd naturally like to use the FLounge. I note the lounge in SIN is a joint QF/BA lounge and so QF may use this as their out. However, I'd turn around and argue that the reference to "international" first lounge implies the lounge is overseas.

On another note, any thoughts on the changes of taking two guests instead of one into the SIN J lounge (and, hopefully) the FLounge)?

It certainly is contradictory IMHO.

However, it probably won't help with the "Dragon" at the desk if flying "Jetstar Asia".

Note that if Flying JQ between SIN and PER (e.g JQ110) a WP will have access to the SIN FLounge.

Well that's one of my questions. I know you can get FLounge access on Jetstar (not Jetstar Asia) but wondered if they might say that because it's a joint lounge access wouldn't be permitted. Then there's the hope that I could guest two (travelling together, with me) instead of one.

But, serfty, what have I missed? Didn't your letter say that there's no FLounge access on Jetstar, as a WP?

No, the letter stated there's no FLounge access when travelling JetstarAsia (along with other, rather vague, waffle ).

Methinks JQ on yon BP allows Flounge access as a WP - 3K would not.

Note this is all since April, so it's sort of new to a lot of people.

Re: F Lounge Access wtih Plat

I was happy enough to just get J lounge access on a 3K flight segment. I think there is very minimal difference between the F and J lounges at SIN. The F lounge in SIN is definitely not a F MEL or SYD lounge experience. In fact last Saturday night we checked in well over 4.5 hrs early for our flight and were th e only ones in F for quite some time in SIN and I had to ask not once but three times for champagne. The service was quite bad. The only good side was it was quiet. I think the food in F is the same as in J, no noticeable differences other than the champagne is of better quality.

If QF decided to only allow F paying passengers into their F lounges there would not be that many in there for such a large lounge in SYD. I think the current system is well balanced and rewards loyal customers. I fly all classes with QF and JQ except paying for F, have been a Plat member for quite somee time and nearly a LTG so I think I have earned the reward.

The food is also of better quality in the F lounge, especially in the evenings when they hand out small plates of a curry and rice, dim sum nibbles, satay sticks etc. :D
