Hi all

Just a question re exit row seating on the international A330, specifically MEL/SYD to SIN (eg QF35, QF81, QF 5).
On some configs the exit is row 44, and on other config the exit is row 45.
On the config with row 44 as exit, you have to pay for seats A & K, however, on the row 45 config, they don't charge exit row price for A & K.

Why would this be the case? I assume that the slide would protrude as much in both configs?
Can anyone shed any light on this?

Cheers

You are quite correct. The emergency chute cowling slightly blocks the legroom for seats A/K on the QF A330. I have never had an issue but I am only 5'9". Have one booked for flight later this year.

Flight is for October (QF35).
Strange why on one config they make you pay and on the other they don't.

QANTAS is refurbishing all their A330s, I think, so probably eventually the config that doesn't charge for exit row seats won't be available anymore.

The exit row door cowling is not really a big issue on any QFi planes that have them. I have long legs and have sat in that seat quite a few times - at worst I have to extend my legs slightly diagonally. But it's still streets ahead of a regular Y seat or a bulkhead.
QF has at times had an aversion to selling them. I guess one might be peeved if one paid almost $200 and ended up with one when the seats next to you are clear. I have an aversion to paying for any exit row seat but would happily take one gratis if available.
