(Highly expecting the answer is a firm no chance) but has anybody had any experience with extending a booked stay and Hilton matching the first nights rate?

Have a stay at H SYD booked for one night in a week and a half, and now need to extend it for 2... First night is booked at $269 and now the next night is $550..

Probably no chance of them agreeing to it, hence not asking but thought I'd throw the question out there.

I can't give a data point for Sydney, but I recently had this extended to me at the Hilton in Windhoek. I had stayed there about a week earlier, but needed to return urgently to Windhoek. I booked late Fri night for the Sat night. I actually had a booking for the following Wed night. I spoke to the duty manager late on Saturday, explained my situation and that I wasn't exactly sure how much longer I needed to stay. The rate of the Saturday night was exceptionally good. They very graciously offered for me to stay as long a I needed at the Saturday rate (which was about half to 35% of the daily rate for the following few nights).

Having said that, my circumstances were rather exceptional at the time and in a country were people genuinely care about others. I suspect it a) being in Australia and b) just because you need to extend that they wont do it. However, it cannot hurt to enquire.

Yes, many times. But it cannot be relied upon. It seems to depend on the hotel, the method of booking, your history at that property and your status. I can't recall trying it with H-SYD so I can't comment specifically, but I would appreciate if you let us know how you get on there!

I've also had luck with booking a cheaper day and then having in house reservations change to another, more expensive day entirely and keep the cheaper rate, but then again just recently, I tried to add a room to a booking at a cheaper rate and had no luck, they wanted to bill me the going rate which was about $300 more.

Good luck.

I'll give them a call today, hopefully somebody is working on the weekend who can help

I've used in-house reservations to get it and I don't think in-house reservations work on the weekends (they send enquiries to the general call centre in Texas usually). Might be best to wait until Monday.

Just off the phone from in-house Reservations at H SYD, refused to price match night before or give any sort of reduced rate for a second night.
Looks like I'll have to find another hotel, all my usual backups are ridiculously high also...:mad:

Adelaide did do it for me the past. Not sure if they still do it. Talk to in house reservations during business hours Monday to Friday.

That's a bummer. H-SYD strikes again. I must admit, I sort of thought you'd at least get a reduced rate as I know I've been able to bargain with them for a suite upgrade on the day. They can deal if they want to.....obviously, they didn't want to.

I agree, they only had Exec rooms and suites left, so didn't expect them to match the first night, so just asked them to give me the base exec rate ($349 on quiet nights) or some discount off, but they flat out refused... Oh well, must try somewhere new (but everywhere that looks decent is full also haha)

HSYD doesn't match the room rate for the next day, well, not unless it's the same price or cheaper the next day which is ridiculous (who would do that?!). These days, I prebook the days that I am not sure if I will need to stay as separate bookings and get them to link up the stay when I'm certain I will need to stay on, that way, there's no need to move room plus you get the room at a better rate as it's booked earlier or cancel them if you don't need to stay on.

I usually do the exact same and have done in the past at HSYD , this just came up unexpectedly.
Oh well.

1888 hotel is not too bad and usually offers descent rates. Something to consider when get stranded in SYD.
