Explosives test procedure change

Now selection is random and apparently by some machine. I would have thought it is better to target certain passengers based on tangible and intangible factors. Safety and security has one arm tied behind their back due to "risk of bias". Politically correctness once again running the show

Surely any proper procedures need both targeted AND random screening? Once you start only targeting specific characteristics, you create a weakness for people to exploit, hence random screening has a place alongside - but perhaps not in place of - targeted screening. [Putting aside the arguments whether screening is worthwhile or not].

I haven't dilly dallied/faffed around hoping to be skipped for a few years now.

I just pack my stuff and walk - if pulled over for dusting, so be it.

It's a pain to miss a bus due to the 30 seconds or so delay, however, other than that I reckon I have saved more time.

My boss and I were both stopped at BNE Dom last week. I was fine but he failed, was tested again, and failed again. He's convinced it was because he polished his shoes that morning. He was marched off to a small room, patted down, and then asked to sign a form stating that he wasn't bringing any explosives on board. I was hoping for a cavity search but no such luck!

I've failed twice and passed it third time in BNE. Cause was around my jeans pockets. I had worn them the previous day when I'd been at the hairdresser having my hair dyed. I run my hands through my hair a bit and then of course, put them in my pockets.

I was flying BNE-SYD in early August and beeped going through the metal detector at security.
I questioned the security person as to whether there was a problem.
She replied that the beep meant I would be selected for an explosives test when they implemented the new system of random selection.
They do seem to be testing significantly less people now the new system is working.

Last month at SYD T1 my 5 year old daughter was given the explosive test. I was surprised as that was the first time I have ever seen a child tested, their bag only not mine or my wife's bag.
I asked and was told the WTMD randomly selects the pax. Still I think the tester has the opportunity to also select any person they wish.
