Hi

I have been reading the forum and articles over the past couple of months, ok it may be longer than that but I have no idea what you are talking about when it comes to the classes.
I am a Qantas Frequent Flyer as are the four other members of my family. ie two adults and three kids.

We have used our frequent flyer points to increase the frequency that we can take international holidays as we are all earning when we are flying but I don't know whether we are taking full advantage of our points and don't understand the classes. Is there a simple way of outlining what J class is etc.

We have never used our points to upgrade but have used them for flights. As there are always five of us flying (bar the odd domestic trip for the adults only) we usually have to travel economy due to cost. We usually do one big international holiday every couple of years and are away for approx 5 weeks usually taking in anywhere between three or more desinations in that time. We have never travelled business class but would love to get to that point. (I just cannot justify that the extra perks are worth more than double the cost to get from A to B) Open to looking at things differently.

Your advice would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

J is Business

The two links above are a good start.

The important thing to keep in mind is that the fare classes dictate whether you can upgrade (e.g. from economy to business) and how many status credits and/or FF points you earn (some classes do not earn points, or earn reduced points depending on the airline).

For example, booking class 'x' is used for QF Classic Award flights, and doesn't earn status credits or points.
