Hi, I have international flights ex Melbourne at Christmas with Thai and Emirates. I have received an email from my Credit Card provider that they are issuing new credit cards because the credit card identification number is changing ie the first four digits of the card will be changing. Will this be an issue for either of the airlines at check in? Should I just take the old card with me and will that be sufficient if asked. Thanks M

Keep the old card and take it with you.I had this happen when issued a new Amex after a fraud episode. No problems but they did want to see the original card used for booking the flight.

I haven't been asked for sight of the CC at check-in for many years. Do TG and EK still do this?

Just to hi-jack this thread a little, has anyone ever being denied check-in because they don't have the credit card which made the booking?

Just thinking, it's very common that my boss puts my flights onto his corp CC. Whilst so far that's being limited to QF / AA / AS for flights in AU / US which are airlines / places I don't believe ask, if I was ever asked for the card I would not be able to produce it (given it would be sitting in CBR, and not with me).

Flew EK in May and they did not do this at check in in PER.
I have never been asked for a credit card at check in.

I've been asked to show CC with SQ in the past 12 months. I'd keep the card. Alternatively, contact the airline and ask them what they would like you to do. They have come across this issue before. I've had occasions where they've noted a replacement card against my PNR and all was fine.

Good idea Gremlin. I think I’ll cover as many bases as possible 👍 it may not even be checked but better safe than stressed

Depends on the airline and booking channel. As pointed out above, SQ is one airline that does ask you to bring your CC if booking directly on their site. This can be resolved by going in to one of their offices in advance of travel if necessary.

Most airlines, but not all, that require the CC will advise you during the booking process.

....and what if you lost the card whilst on the trip? Maybe take a photo of it as I do with my DL and passport.

My experience when asked by SQ for the credit card was hat I didn't have the matching card. They gave me a form which basically guaranteed that I would pay with the carrying card if my original card turned out to be a fraud. Not very trusting.

My experience was with SQ.But asked for my CC on TG and Air asia Thailand.

Travelled with SQ twice last month on direct bookings. Not asked for cc on either occasion.

What would happen if you paid for a flight for some other person on your card (e.g. as a gift) and you are not travelling with that person, and you will not be at the airport when they check-in?

I remember a few years ago when purchasing air tickets online direct with QF, IB and TG in Hong Kong, Spain and Thailand and being advised during the booking process that the credit card used for the booking was required to be sighted at check in.
I don't remember ever actually being asked for the credit card.

Never been asked on SQ and made lots of bookings direct. However have been asked in the past 12 months both by TG and CI direct bookings. To be fair, both had called out clearly in their ticket paperwork that you must have the card the ticket was booked with at check in (or present it to an office no less than 3 days earlier). Kind of weird given that they have already charged the card and received the money at booking months earlier........

I have had a similar change of card number (from Visa to Mastercard) but same account. I checked with the airline and they said to bring the old card which I did and was asked to show it at checkin. It didn't matter that it was expired, they just wanted to see the same number.

There is a process to have it authorised prior. card gets sighted by an SQ office.

I've only had to do it once and it was when flying QR out of HEL. I was advised by them shortly after my booking had been made, so no problem and I noted it down to ensure I didn't forget. Apart from that never been asked.
