Expertflyer iOS app - “Seat Alerts” pulled? [Now back]

Just noticed today that the iPad version is back, downloaded and working.

No idea how long it’s been there? 🤷‍♂️

I noticed an update to Seat Alerts in the Apple App Store and thought I'd better test it on a spare iPhone - just gut feel - and glad I did. It clearly wasn't tested on an iPhone in Dark Mode - can't see the text! Seems to work OK in Light Mode, though.

Well, to their credit, an update appeared for me today and I tested it out and they've fixed the text in Dark Mode - which just looks like Light Mode :p Anyway, glad it's fixed.

Received today

Dear Expert Flyer,

We're reaching out with an update on the Seat Alerts mobile app. Starting today the current version of the app will be offline and we will be directing app traffic to our new mobile web experience. The new mobile web experience includes:

  1. SMS notifications
  2. Improved mobile seat map interface
  3. Access to all features included in your subscription (beyond just seat maps)
All of the alerts in your Seat Alerts mobile app will be migrated and continue to check for availability. We'll be working on an improved app experience and will let you know once we have a clear timeline for release.

If you run into any issues or have feedback please reach out to us

For a number of years I had a paid subscription to EF and got great value selecting flights that had a high chance of upgrades, but then my travel dropped off and I let it lapse.

I'm travelling a bit more again, I see some posts about it not being as good as it used to be, and others mentioning no visibility of U fares - are people getting value from it? is it currently worth the subscription cost?

Having been a subscriber of 10 + years and having recently renewed I’d still have to say no it’s not.

Flight availability is still functional but the new interface atleast on mobile is not great and the seat alerts app not working is a major negative. If I hadn’t been lazy and let it auto renew last month I would have cancelled and let them fix things and then give them my money again

I’m also thinking I’ll let mine lapse early next year.

I’m no longer confident that the seat bucket info is correct.

For example, I set an alert for any I on a high-demand route.

The alert triggered for I9 a few days later.

I called QF and the agent said there was nothing available in I.

I’ve taken a seats.aero subscription and running both for a few months.

My instinct is seats.aero, but I have a few months to run on EF.
