I was on KUL - MEL yesterday in J on the A330. The main thing I didn't like about the seat was that I couldn't get my legs out straight. My feet were always lower than my knees. After a few hours I don't like that. But it was pretty comfortable really - not as adjustable as a QF J seat which you can pretty much customise to your personal preference. The MH seat has 4 settings, so you choose one.
J was not full and there was nobody else in row 1 at all. The CSM came to say to me "thank you for being Oneworld emerald" which I thought was cute
Yes there was satay, with lots of peanut sauce and napkins but no cutlery. I hadn't had the MH satay before and TBH I think it is a bit overhyped on AFF. Yes it was nice but I wasn't blown away by it. And I would definitely have preferred a knife and fork to eat it with (probably could have asked for them now I think of it!)
There were 2 white wines (French or Australian) and ditto the reds. The champagne was Deutz NV. There was a spirits list too. Other than the champagne I wasn't offered a drink at all except for juice before landing, and I had to ask for each drink otherwise, alcoholic or not.
The IFE selection was reasonable, but not amazing. They collected the headphones about 45 mins before landing so that was that for the movie I was part way through.
My biggest gripe was that the seatbelt sign was turned on about halfway over WA (past what the crew called "the typhoon") and remained on until just before landing although for about the last 3 hours there were no bumps at all. So no tea or coffee with the snack before landing, even though I requested it. Also they leave the cabin music playing for a really long time, well past take off and turn it on again well before landing. Ok if you like what they're playing but annoying if you don't.
The one way fare in J was around $1,000 so a good bargain. Would I fly MH J long haul to Europe? Not sure. Not if I could get a better fare on CX/AY.
