Has anyone been recently on MH from Perth to Kuala Lumpur and back flying business class? If so, what is the seat and service like?

They are currently flying their A330's (the newer types). I haven't flown MH out of PER since for a while so I have only been on their 772's, so I can't give you an answer as to the exact product, but it is angled lie flat.

firm recaro angled lie flat for MEL-KUL A330
must say not a fan for overnight. ok for day flights
service is usually ok, satay somewhere in flight for day flights
wine is poor, usually two options - red or white! don't expect them to know how they are

competitive pricing when on sale with far less crazy restrictions than QF (sale fares refundable post cancellation fee)

Thanks all.

KitKat - what is particularly wrong with the seat? Is it because the angled lie flat makes you slip down as you are sleeping, or the cushioning? I guess similar to the Cathay product in the early-mid 2000's?

I am looking at MH purely as they have really good pricing as KitKat says when they are on sale. I am actually thinking of doing the PER-KUL-HKG, and it's a 2am for the PER-KUL leg, so getting some shut eye is important.'

Sprucegoose - would appreciate your feedback too when you try it out. Are you taking any red eyes?

It's likely this a330 product

It isn't great for sleep but overall the j service is good...satay was served on my night flight to Syd, main meals are simple but tasty, extensive bar range, unbeatable value for money

bed or rather seat is a little too firm for me. YMMV

agree that it is good value for money paid (not points burn)

I was on KUL - MEL yesterday in J on the A330. The main thing I didn't like about the seat was that I couldn't get my legs out straight. My feet were always lower than my knees. After a few hours I don't like that. But it was pretty comfortable really - not as adjustable as a QF J seat which you can pretty much customise to your personal preference. The MH seat has 4 settings, so you choose one.

J was not full and there was nobody else in row 1 at all. The CSM came to say to me "thank you for being Oneworld emerald" which I thought was cute :)

Yes there was satay, with lots of peanut sauce and napkins but no cutlery. I hadn't had the MH satay before and TBH I think it is a bit overhyped on AFF. Yes it was nice but I wasn't blown away by it. And I would definitely have preferred a knife and fork to eat it with (probably could have asked for them now I think of it!)

There were 2 white wines (French or Australian) and ditto the reds. The champagne was Deutz NV. There was a spirits list too. Other than the champagne I wasn't offered a drink at all except for juice before landing, and I had to ask for each drink otherwise, alcoholic or not.

The IFE selection was reasonable, but not amazing. They collected the headphones about 45 mins before landing so that was that for the movie I was part way through.

My biggest gripe was that the seatbelt sign was turned on about halfway over WA (past what the crew called "the typhoon") and remained on until just before landing although for about the last 3 hours there were no bumps at all. So no tea or coffee with the snack before landing, even though I requested it. Also they leave the cabin music playing for a really long time, well past take off and turn it on again well before landing. Ok if you like what they're playing but annoying if you don't.

The one way fare in J was around $1,000 so a good bargain. Would I fly MH J long haul to Europe? Not sure. Not if I could get a better fare on CX/AY.

I've flown this leg twice, including last week and can really only support what others have said.

As mentioned, the seats are angled-flat, like QF Skybed mark I. The shoulder room isn't great.

The IFE is decent but the collection of the headsets well prior to landing is pathetic. If you have your own, however, you can continue listening.

There are no amenity kits, despite the 3am departure, apparently because the flight is less than eight hours. After my flight last week I was particularly disappointed that after we finally took of (delayed) and the seatbelt sign went off, on came all the cabin lights and there were a series of announcements, all at around 4am.

The seatbelt sign being left on is a problem and reminds me of American airlines and their paranoia. When it's on there is no hot drink service.

But the price can be excellent. I've one-way KUL-PER in J for about AUD550. Just don't attribute your miles to QF (unless SC are your main goal).

KUL MEL is 7 hours 35 mins and I was given an amenity kit yesterday, quite a good one too with lots of stuff in it.

Agree with Danger re the FF earn, but being an AFFer SCs are way more important to me!

Re the hot drinks - the crew were all drinking coffee even though they wouldn't serve it to the pax

You're lucky. I emailed them after they weren't offered on a KUL-PER flight (along with some other small issues) and was told they aren't provided on flights less than eight hours. Seems a bit ridiculous to me.

I'll probably write a more detailed trip report when I get home, but I flew PER-KUL(-KTM) a few weeks ago in J and it was good. I was on the 4pm flight, and as others have indicated, there is no amenity kit. Not a huge issue for me for a late afternoon flight. With the meal, I had ordered the VGML meal as I'm vegan, and honestly, it was probably the best VGML meal I've ever had on a flight. The cabin crew were attentive, but not in my face all the time (overzealous cabin crew annoy me).

Enjoyed the flight overall, and is in stark contrast to the subsequent KUL-KTM flight I had.

The biggest issue I had was with the Toll Dnata staff that MH contracts in Perth. Some highly offensive comments were made at the gate as I went to board through the business class line (I was dressed more casually than usual because I was going on a climbing trip and had to severely limit my clothing options). I have written a letter to MH about it, but not heard back yet. I don't know what will eventuate since it wasn't MH who were the problem, but Toll. Wait and see.

Don't expect much in way of a response from MH - it almost seems beneath them to respond to customer feedback(or their IT systems can't handle it...)

What was said at the gate to you?

I regard to Deutz NV whether it is champagne or not will depend on the origin of the wine.
Champagne Deutz produced in France is indeed champagne from a champagne house established in 1838.
Deutz NV produced in New Zealand is sparkling wine produced by a partnership between Deutz and Pernod Ricard (Montana). :)

I was wearing zip-off trekking pants, a quick-dry button up shirt and my climbing boots. And I was carrying my day backpack. I got called a cashed up bogan who didn't belong in business class and that I should be boarding with the masses. It came from a Toll Dnata staff member (could see the id tag and they were wearing the Toll uniform), not an MH staff member. But as representatives of MH as their ground handlers, they should know better.

I appreciate that I was dressed down, but given the nature of the trip it was appropriate clothing. Everything was all clean and pressed. I just think the comments were inappropriate.

Did they say it directly to you or did you overhear them?

I would write directly to tolldnata if I was you and definitely would not let this slide! That is disgraceful!

The cashed up bogan who didn't belong in business class comment was said to me directly. The comment about belonging over with the masses was overheard as the person was walking away with a colleague.
