gaah, oh no, didn't check that bit.

Thought I was being very clever by arriving in KL at 3am and then making use of the lounge before heading out.

If I've understood you correctly you're flying into KL and out of KL on the same day. In this case you should be able to use the MH lounge (assuming it's open) before heading out through immigration. KUL is a lot like SIN in that respect; arriving and departing passengers aren't separated.

In that case it should be fine, Oneworld website indicates the lounge is open 24hours

I arrive in KL at 3am. Plan was to lounge for a couple of hours, then head out to my meeting. Flying out of KL the same day at 11.55pm. Oh great then!

I'm about to fly business from SYD>KL then KL>Frankfurt for the first time & then back to SYD the same way.
Only just signed up to Enrich so am a basic member at this stage.

Hoping I can have a sleep/shower/eat at KL MH lounge upon arrival from Sydney before heading out to KL city for my meetings?

Also as per this website, Lounge access - oneworld means I can enter any one world lounge at Frankfurt airport when I am flying back to KL?
If you arrive after 10:30pm and before 6:30am, the only MH lounge that is open is on the satellite terminal which is the same as the International arrival terminal. There were no issues with access to that lounge when I arrived 2 wks ago at 3:20am, showed them the J domestic BP and was allowed straight in.

Thinking of doing this flight soon and note the PER-KUL flight departs 0200. Is any PER lounge open then?

Huh? Is there an MH lounge in PER?

I can't say I've ever seen it. Maybe it's contracted, but the only lounges I can think of are EK, QF and SQ?

Hmm. Just looked on the net and indeed there is one. Is it up next to SQ?

Crazy. I guess when you pretty much only fly QF out of Perth (hard to do, I know) you don't see much of the airport!

You aren't missing much in the MH lounge. I direct all my friends who fly J to go to the QF one instead. Pity for the Per-Sin flight for QF that the EK lounge isn't open.

Another question: if on a MH J ticket and the KUL layover the engine is giving me is often 7-9 hours. Do they offer any free hotel room?

Ring your local Malaysian airline office in your city. sometimes they do but its a bit of a lottery - never on award tickets though

THis would be a paid J fare ex HKG. Any tips on how to negotiate this?

I thought I would update since I started this thread ;) Actually only ended up taking it recently.

Inbound trip to PER via KUL from HKG:
- HKG -> KUL - 737-800 - seats a bit on the old side, so no lie flat or angled but comfortable enough. Satay serving was generous and tasty. Crew very pleasant

- Layover in KL - no hotel provided as my travel agent said it was a Z class ticket despite when booking the only option was the 2040 flight out out of HK, arriving 0030+1 and the 0930 flight to PER

- Stayed at the Sama Sama transit hotel in the satellite terminal which was basic but okay. Used the minimum 6 hour block, and then headed to lounge for breakfast before boarding.

- KUL -> PER - 330-300 - like other posters have note, the seat is on the hard side and is angled flat. I got used to the hardness after a while in the seated position, and it felt quite comfortable. I definitely missed the Cathay J class seat and blanket when trying to sleep, as I slid down a few times and couldn't sleep on my side at all, and the old style Cathay type economy blankets weren't enough to keep warm (I used two).

Back from my trip. Was an excellent flight for my first business class journey!
The lounge in KL seemed well equipped. Had a nap in the slumber room, showered & ate.
Did the same again when I returned to the airport after my meeting.

Slept pretty much the entire way from SYD to KL, only woke up in the last 45mins.

Overall a great experience and would definitely do it again for my next trip to Europe.

no sorry, name escapes me. not a huge drinker on flights. however it has been mentioned here I am sure.

I loved the food, the satay chicken skewers were awesome (beef were okay too but a little too dry)!
I pre-ordered my meals using the chef-on-call service a few days before my flight, in hindsight the selection on board was great too, didn't really need to pre-book (& I won't next time, wrecks the surprise :p)
