Exit Row Seat Requests

Re this subject of exit row seats. If you have a medical problem? and can produce a doctors note do Qantas take it into consideration?

Yes, depending on the condition (e.g. reduced mobility) they will make sure you don't sit there. Which might be the opposite of what you were hoping for!

This exit row seating thread is really quite interesting.
I recently had to call qantas about a weird message on my booking screen when I booked a flight ADL-SFO and LAX-ADL for may.
I've already posted on the great service I got, and after she sorted out the little issue I had, I asked if she could put a note in the system asking for exit seats.
At the time, I was not expecting anything to be done other than a simple request.
When she checked, she found 2 seats "not locked out" and after checking checkmytrip, and seatguru, I'm allocated in 46H over to SFO and 58C back from LAX. I even have exit seats on both connecting 737 flights.
I'm only a lowly bronze QC/FF, but it certainly looks good at the moment.
I'm quite prepared to be moved out if a WP gets put there, but I'll be somewhat pi**ed off!!!!

A medical condition that you think may make an emergency exit row beneficial is likely to disqualify you from being able to sit in an emergency exit row. Anyone who has mobility restrictions is unable to sit in an emergency exit row as they may not be capable of performing the necessary tasks in an emergency.

So I very much doubt a doctor's letter is going to help you get allocated an emergency exit row seat. In fact its likely to work against any such seating request.

Your best bet is a bulkhead row (no exit), some more room and no issues with mobility dis-allowing you from sitting there. As long as you dont need a raising armrest of get in and out of the seat that is since most of those rows have fixed armrests.

In my experience it is very rare to have a pre-allocated seat request changed unless getting an op-up. It has only happened to me once last year when I went from 29C (exit row) to 26J to 58C then back to 29C and then a mid flight op-up to business class.

I hate the exit rows on 747's on any long haul flight (in Y).

the window seats are shockers for room due to the door shape, people congregate in the area talking and just standing around, people bumping into your legs or standing on your feet to get a view out of the little round window - as if it's going to be different than the rectangle window at their seat!

Me, if in Y, a window seat anywhere on the plane with the seat next to me vacant!!

Mr!

I find i rarely sleep much on a flight anyway, so the exit rows are really just easier to get up from to go to the loo or get a drink, and just plain stretch out.
They can also be good for getting to know the cabin crew while they are sitting opposite you for take off, turbulence etc.

Agreed 100%. On just about any flight in Y anyway. Only exceptions is if I have a day trip to somewhere and I need to get off the plane ASAP I (obviously) rather be up the front.

Now this is weird.... Qantas must really love me. On the way home from LAX to Melbourne on QF26 we got another free upgrade... to business class. And this time I have no idea why.

So... our $1300 tickets got us (two of us) an upgrade to Prem Economy on the way over to LA and an upgrade to Business on the way back. My status is silver.

If Qantas are giving away the upgrades this easily I may be going back to the US again very soon.

Wow! That's good. I'm about to head to JFK and I'll just reach Silver status a few weeks before I fly. Later this year I'll get to SG after a trip to London so hopefully some upgrades might be floating about. Nice if it happens but not holding my breath.

I agree with you for most of this, as I'm a lousy sleeper. It is interesting to note that on Qantas flights that are code=shared AA, almost all of the exit row seats will have been pre-allocated to little old American seniors.

Reading through this thread reminds me of this whY trip on QF9 from SIN to HLR last year. A colleague of mine tried so hard to get an exit row seat @ ADL airport. I didn't know his seat number until we were boarding the 4-class 744.

..... He had been allocated 46A (ugh), which turned out to be his worst nightmare.

I'm becoming a confused frequent flyer!!!!!!!!
I just checked checkmytrip and find I have been moved on my LAX-MEL flight from 58C to 23A - first row of business class according to Mr Seat Guru.
Do I get excited now, or do I just keep my fingers crossed that this is a surprise waiting for me?
