Hi There, Flying Qantas A380 London - Melbourne/Sydney - London. A few questions about exit seats (about 66AB and 35DEF if it makes a difference).

After take off and before landing, can you have your bag out in front of you to rest your feet on, or has anyone used one of those little blow up foot rests?
Can you put your bag by you or under the seat in front or do you still have to keep the exit completely clear during the flight?
Basically, in air, is this space your space, or are there still restrictions?

Are there magazine nets on the seats in front for storage?

Any restrictions on sound cancelling headphones in air in exit rows?

Also, not an exit row question, but will a mac book pro 15inch draw too much voltage and trip the power?

Thanks!

We had those exit row seats when it was just PE in that cabin. Brilliant seats. We used backpacks as footrests during the sleeping time and had no issues. No one stood there either. The crew would sit opposite us during landing/takeoff. The one closest to the exit can get a bit cold which didn't bother me at all.

You can't reach the seats in front in any way and as they are crew seats (facing you) I don't recall any netting.

Exit row is for exit. Bags not allowed in this space or in front of your feet at any time.
use any headphones on any seat exit row or not

Exit row seats are narrower as the arm restvhas to fit the tray table and the arm rests cannot be raised. Also the exit row area is a magnet for loitering people seeking to escape the confines of their Y seat

The industry standard is 75w for in seat power. I would suggest using the charger for the 13 inch MBP as the 15inch MBP has a 90W which could trip the circuit breaker. Using the smaller charger will mean slower charge.

Dont rely on it working all the time though, many people have had problems.

So in the air keep it charging when not using, and use low power settings especially screen brightness. Also does your MBP have SSD instead of the powerhungry spinning disk HD? You may want to swop into a SSD.

PUSHKA may have had a different experience but you may get the above

Now exit row is technically the row of seats by the window - so ABCHJK. 35DEF is the middle row which is really not exit row but has a walkway. Im not sure if the rear of 34DEF has magazine hold but i would think they have to as the cabin card is a requirement so it has to go somewhere.

Thanks Quickstatus, unfortunately it’s not SSD but I will look at getting a lower w charger.

When you book exit rows, from everything on the website etc... it says ‘bags must be stowed during take off and landing’ - which implies you can have your bag out during the flight..... which is why i’m a bit confused.

Is there anyone who has been in 35DEF since it changed from PE who might know? or experience with 66AB?

I'm not aware of any restriction on luggage being in the exit during flight. Many airlines block exits during flight for all sorts of reasons.

Would agree with this. No restrictions whilst in air, as far as I have experienced.

a lot of people make the mistake of asking cabin crew (when the cabin crew go to be seated for take-off) 'can we put our bags here?' or 'can we use our bags as a leg-rest?' and of course the crew respond with 'no, the area must be clear'.

It's simply a case of passengers asking at the wrong time... during preparation for take-off. Then they assume the exclusion applies to the whole flight.

In exit row and bulkhead seats all hand luggage needs to be stowed in overhead compartments. Tablets can be stored in the pocket on the bulkhead or held on your lap. (Bulkhead and exit row).

Once the seat belt sign is off after take-off you are able to remove your hand luggage from the locker and place it in front of you, not under your seat. The area under your seat is the footwell for the person behind you, so if you place your bags there you are encroaching in their leg space.

You can use your bags as footrests during the flight, but if the seatbelt light goes on you may be requested to put them into the overhead locker until the seatbelt light goes back off.

On exit row seats (in economy) they usually have the magazine pockets located on the wall close to the windows. There's usually very little room to store anything in them.

If I remember correctly, on both the 747 and 380 the cabin crew in J put a foldable table in front of the exit door in the galley section to get more "kitchen counter" space to assemble meals. So I would say there doesn't seem to be any strong rules against blocking exit row door in flight.

Even on QFd I've seen crew ask pax in the exit row at a door/galley area to remove their bag that was being used as an extended footrest. Reasons seem to be: It's in the way of trolleys, it's blocking where other pax might like to stand, it could be a danger in turbulence. Probably all reasonable requests. And yet on the same flight at other times I've seen crew comment on what a clever idea it is!

i think it's a good idea to 'play it safe'. putting a bag there when the cabin lights have been dimmed for the night, and having a blanket over your legs and bag and I doubt anyone is going to see or even notice it.

put the bag there while the lights are on, the cabin is busy with meals and/or people up an about using the WCs and the crew might tell you it's not allowed.
