Hi all -

We are new immigrants to Australia from Europe, and we are of course planning to go back at Christmas to visit the families that would not understand it otherwise... ;)

Now, our complication is that we are also expecting our first child this August, and this means we cannot just plan and book asap quite simply!

I'm pretty sure prices for this period will only go up as the year goes by, but I wanted to get your feedback on 2 points:

1/ Is there a pattern in the rise in prices? I mean: will they go up gradually at the same pace until mid-december or are there periods where they go up sharply?

2/ We will see if it is possible to travel off-peak, but in my research, I've only find approximately the same price for all dates I've tried. What would be the cut-off dates, roughly, for before the peak season and after it?

Many thanks for your kind feedback here! :)

Best,

- donluis

Hi Donluis and welcome to AFF,

When I headed back a few years ago I found that there was a rapid rise in prices from about the 18th/19th December (booked in late August/early Sept). This seemed to be fairly consistent across all airlines.

As to flying with a baby, I know that QF has the ability to book now and then add in an infant later, ie after the little'in is born.
