Ever noticed that airport cafés don't display coffee prices?

I wonder how many of them are QFF partners? That small latte will come to 50,000 Qantas points! 😳
Your coffee gets delivered to someone in T1 at SYD when you order it in MEL.
Your coffee is inexpertly made by a cheaply-hired person who knows little about making coffee, ‘cos the barista got canned.
Your coffee gets cancelled just before you were about to get it, so you get this voucher for a replacement with an expiry-date that’s uncomfortably close.
Your coffee gets cancelled and you really need one, there’s probably capacity to make one in the next couple of minutes so you spend 3 hours on the ‘phone trying to organise that replacement for the coffee you paid for.
Last time you bought the premium coffee there it was so much better, not just in taste but all the things that came with it; yet the price has gone up since then.
All the coffee-shop staff are run off their feet due to their workmates having been canned … making them grumpy as well as all their customers who’re sick of the reduced service, which becomes a cycle of grumpiness.

Yes, this about sums it up. And when you put it into hilariously accurate terms that clearly show this level of service is unacceptable for a $5 coffee, why on earth would it be acceptable on a $5000+ airfare, I ask?

Or tea. Coffee is overrated at any price.

If you need coffee to function the rest of us must be non-functional right?
Yep, we see you broken lot as non-functional! :)

I don’t get any sort of buzz from coffee, drink it solely for the enjoyment. Which also means only drinking good stuff, drinking it to get a buzz leads to American coffee & the Dark Side …

Tea is about process, procedure, a routine. It tastes like diluted lawn, it’s not about the taste; I assume it started being used to mask the flavour of polluted water.

Not only coffee at airports, but it's a pet peeve of mine when prices aren't displayed generally in retail environments. I don't want to hang around waiting to be attended to just to ask a price.
Mine is when places that only take card payments add a card surcharge on to the displayed price. If the only form of payment comes with an added surcharge, why not just include it in the price?

Interesting. When I started this thread, I had recently noticed that prices were not displayed in MKY, BNE (domestic), SYD (T3), CBR or the QF terminal in MEL.
This has not been my experience flying through MEL a couple weeks ago from the QF terminal. For instance this coffee stand for Proto clearly shows the drink prices:

The cafe/resto in the arrivals area of CBR also had prices clearly displayed in an overhead sign (albeit I can't seem to find the photo for that one).

Hair salons in Thailand. If I have to ask how much to pay for a 100 baht clipper cut then I know it will be at least double the price.

Dentists are an interesting one. How much for a filling? Clean? Extraction?

My regular massage place (n a shopping centre) adds on a fee for use of oil, although you do get a choice of oil scents. For my last massage I said I wasn’t prepared to pay extra for oil if it was needed, particularly as other places include it. After some discussion in another language, the6 agreed.

I can't see that price clearly in that photo... that small coffee costs $6.00?

Has anyone noticed that many of the cafés in Australian airports do not display a menu or prices for coffee in a way that is clearly visible? I often find that when I'm ordering a coffee (on occasions where no lounge is available or I'm in the main terminal for whatever reason) I actually have no idea what the price will be and have to ask.

Are the cafés just embarrassed to publicise that it's $6.50 (or whatever) for a small coffee?
probably because they have to increase their prices every 3 days, they cant keep up with changing the menu/signs

Not what I see! $4.90 for a small, $5.50 for a regular and $6 for a large flat white (Australia doesn't have "coffee" like in North America)

I've had enough of this one. I always pay with debit card but still get hit with the "credit card' surcharge. Additionally it is a condition subsequent to the sale. ie I ordered the coffee for $4.50 but wouldn't have had I known you would overcharge me on payment.

Passive aggressive me wanted to then pay them in 5c pieces as my alternate 'fee-free' payment method.

I did search the RBA website for guidance on how EFTPOS and debit cards should be treated differently but nothing was in a language that a retail shop operator would understand.

That's another one that really irks me, that even if you pay with EFTPOS you still get dinged. That and also the insanity of expecting to settle a flight or hotel bill of several hundred of thousand of dollars with cash to avoid the fees (I know some will mention BPay and other fee free options but not all retailers honour it and most importantly refunds are a royal pain. Having to wait 6 months for a refund to post totally negates any benefit of a 2-3% surcharge using credit card).

Much better... phew!
Yeah, I've seen inflation when it comes to coffee, especially at 7-Eleven. Interestingly the inflation isn't evenly spread out. If you buy a regular (aka an extra small as we would call it in Canada) it's now $2 instead of the usual $1. However, super, the largest available coffee at 7-Eleven (we would call that a medium in Canada) it's just $3.50 instead of the usual $3 (and if you apply the 50 cent off discount from the 7-Eleven app the price didn't actually change).
