re: Etihad looking for 10pc of Virgin ...

It is news to me as I only found out about that today....

We forget that certain people on here know everything all the time before everyone and love to repeatedly point that out ;)

I certainly hadn't read about it before as I don't read/watch the news / or every thread on here religiously.

I hadn't read about it either but since I saw this thread I am taking an interest as I do not want to see Etihad own an airline in Australia. We already have poor connection choices right now and I do not want to see a monopoly on possible future connections that would only benefit a Middle Eastern carrier.

Etihad takes 10 percent share in Virgin Australia

This just popped up on AusBT:

Etihad Airways has confirmed it now holds a 10% stake in Virgin Australia, following recent approval by the Australian Government's Foreign Investment Review Board (FIRB) to double its previous 5% share.

Etihad takes 10% stake in Virgin Australia - Flights | hotels | frequent flyer | business class - Australian Business Traveller

Be interesting to see how Qantas reacts, and how this will shape this week's expected announcement of the Qantas-Emirates deal!

What's the news given they have flagged and been approved for a 10% holding ?

The 'news' was that they continued to edge closer to that goal, and then again last night that they reached that 10% goal. Seriously, why are so many sensible posts which share news and developments in the aviation and frequent flyer space with AFF so quickly derided by several people as being 'old news' or 'no news'?

Yes it is news that they have reached their point they were given approval to back on July 19, and progress has been posted by way of ASX notifications as required by law, the last one being Friday indicating they were pretty much there. A simple addition to the thread discussing their progress from some time ago would have sufficed, rather than a thread catching the odd hallmark as it turned out to be. I have now merged the threads so readers have the full context in one spot of what was speculated versus what has occurred.

Good question and I think the answer is quite obvious.
