There's a previous thread on this, but posted well before recent developments.

For our Etihad flights to Dublin on 11th April, our travel agent has offered a credit with Etihad or the option of traveling.

I'm concerned that a credit with Etihad may be worthless in one many possible different ways by the time we might be able to use it. And obviously we aren't going to be travelling.

I'm inclined to hold out for Etihad cancelling or making significant changes to the route, triggering the option of a full refund.

Any thoughts out there amongst you grounded travellers?

Yep I'm holding out too. I can't see the harm in holding out, waiting for a cancellation, or hoping their policy will be amended again to better reflect that people that legally can't travel can also get a refund. We shall see. Due to be wheels up in 9 days.

Hmm. One leg has now been cancelled. It was a VN flight, EY codeshare. All 4 other flights still appear to be operating. The email curiously mentions Covid-19 impacts as only being change fee free or credit worthy, if travel prior to June 30. Perhaps Etihad is following other airlines leads and being duplicitous in avoiding cash refunds.

I've just had significant changes to my flights, now involving a 20-hour layover in Abu Dhabi, so hopefully that's enough to trigger a refund.

My email from Etihad (but not from the travel agent) also says:

"If there is a significant change to the scheduled flight time which is not acceptable to you and we are unable to book you on an alternate flight which is acceptable to you, you will be entitled to a refund. Any such changes need to be made within 30 days of this notification to avoid the usual change fees."

Who did you book with Irishpete? This happened to me before whereupon they changed the flight by over an hour (I think) or so, and that entitled me to change flights to a direct AUH - DUB flight, rather than AUH-EDI-DUB by ringing the customer service line for no fee.

I have flights to Dublin on 1 May from SYD-AUH (2 day layover)-Dub. Aunt Betty messaged us asking if we still intended to fly or if we wanted to change. I said still intend to fly (we had no choice really), but I hope that this doesn't impact our ability to change under Etihad's free date change, as we're likely to push it back to the end / middle of May. Ireland is a cough show at the moment and will only get worse.

What I have seen is that we picked up a plane change from A380 to 777 on the SYD-AUH leg, seems to have been done across a bunch of the EY455 flights. Makes sense. Just checked J Class and it's full, so wonder if the flights will still go ahead... in fact they put my wife and I on opposite sides of the cabin with window seats (!), whereas we were in the honeymoon seats on the A380.

BYOJet is who I booked with.

I expect a lot of flights will appear full until people's requests for refund and changes.

I haven't phoned the agent yet. I need to set aside a couple of days for being on hold...

I’m in the same boat . Etihad to London mid April with a 2 day stop in Abu Dhabi which I can’t take now as UAE has suspended visa on entry. Booked with Aunt Betty received the same email want a refund.
