i spent a bit of time last weekend trying to find availability LHR-SYD. didn't have much luck and thought about breaking up the legs into LHR-AUH and AUH-SYD, but guestseat never showed up on the split legs - only firstsaver. any ideas?

Excellent result :). But it just shows how byzantine the AA miles / EY F game is. There appears to be a lot of 'discretion' with the AAgents; I wonder if they hold back F seats for their own elite members (or hold back the ability to request them from EY) until a certain time but might release/request them under certain circumstances? Now I wish I had pushed harder for my October AUH-SYD return leg (wanted F, only got J). Never mind.

I think most AA agents search availability on each segment separately and probably that supervisor searched in a different way and saw exactly what I could see on EY website, then managed to release an extra seat on AUH-SYD somehow.

I posted my positive outcome to show that even what appears at first as phantom seat, can still be booked eventually with a bit of luck and the right agent.

I suggest you keep searching for F availability (or even Apartments) every now and then. Who knows, maybe people will cancel some bookings as I did myself a few weeks ago.

Just put on hold a reservation to LHR next May Melb - Bris - HK - LHR on QF/CX for 60K. I'm hoping to get EY on my return in June when the seats are released! Fingers crossed. There seems to be decent availability in May on EY.

Looking at random dates next year (from March to June) I found zero availability on the A380 to/from SYD and also on B787 to/from BNE in F.

Best combination I could find is EY451/EY11 but the 2:25am departure from AUH significantly reduces the Apartment experience.

Flight on 77Ws all the way show reasonable availability so it leads me to believe EY blocked Guest release for A380 and B787 to/from AU.

I have the had the same observation. I am likely to be in AUH in early March next year and might just take a punt. Availability ex-SYD and ex-AUH on the same day or sometimes the next day seems to have reasonable availability on the 388. Fortune favours the brave. Actually I could just reserve a 77W seat then try to switch. Not so high risk that way lol

Do you mean EY tend to release extra last minutes award seats? If so can you see them on their website?

Booked AUH-SYD-MEL in J :)

I just noticed that AUH-BNE has F availability on the 787 for August only. So 1 month out they open up. Hopefully this improves. To be on the safe side book J and if F opens closer to your date grab it. It's not that expensive to do that with EY. Oh, and I did see one seat AUH-SYD in F on the 380. Think it was 13 Aug. so there is still hope for the 380 awards.

I have a couple of F bookings on B777 so will keep checking the website from time to time hopefully to find availability on the A380. It's free to swap planes as long as the route and original class of booking stay the same.

Edit: forgot one of the bookings goes to MEL so will have to pay $US150 to swap if can find availability on A380 but it's definitely worth it :)

Has anyone flown 789 F yet ?
Or does anyone have a flight coming up ?
Any comments or feedback ?

I'm tossing up whether to fly to BNE then QF J to MEL and forgo the chauffeur or just fly direct AUH-MEL on the 77W.
I'm leaning towards the former as have a thing for trying new planes and have done 77W F a few times.

787 in F is not much different to the B77W in F. In fact its almost identical. Just a few cosmetic changes really. I checked the cabin out when i flew auh-iad recently in biz.

BTW. 789 only goes to/from BNE. 380 + 777 only goes to/from SYD. MEL only has 777's.

I know this is the AA-EY partner thread, but I'm posting it here in case anyone can help with this question:

I've been looking for the last few weeks, but EY seem to have withdrawn availability of First Guest Seats on the A380 service between SYD and AUH. I'm looking at dates in May and June 2016, and while I can spot a few First reward seats on EY451 (77W) which then connects to an AUH-LHR A380, there's nothing showing for EY455. Anyone have any idea of this is on purpose or whether the availability on the A380 First Apartments opens later?

I want to book using VA points. Should I book onto EY451 and then change if the A380 seat becomes available? Does anyone know what the change fee is for VA reward redemptions?

I've also posted it on the VA - EY/SQ thread here: Use VA points for Etihad A380 apartment or SQ A380 suite. - Page 5
