Anecdotally, yes. But I haven't tried myself TBH.

I think you may have missed the message here. Anecdotally, F seats were available but in the last few days they appear not to be, as if EY are restricting access to awards seats for AA.

Yeah. For one day. 3 days ago they became bookable through AA again.

Some funny things seem to be happening here, so it's difficult to keep up.

Edit: Reading on other forums, people have in the last 2 days been redeeming AUH-LHR EY F A380 tickets through AA.

To be more accurate, most F Guest seats that were available on the EY website to/from SYD/BNE disappeared immediately after the 'glitch' was fixed. I think there were too many seats to say that people simply booked them all in a relatively small window of a few hours.

Yes, we are saying the same thing. EY removed AA's access to said seats.

AA miles from Etihad between Australia and the Middle East?

So the AA website says:
Earn American Airlines AAdvantage Miles With Etihad Airways

[h=3]Regions[/h]Earn and redeem AAdvantage® miles for travel on Etihad Airways within the Middle East and between the Middle East and:

  • Africa
  • Asia
  • Europe
  • North America
  • South America

South Pacific is noticeably missing from that list. Clearly from other posts people are managing to redeem on EY from Australia but can someone confirm that I could earn points if I buy a revenue ticket from Australia - AUH.

Cheers,

El

Still some phantom Guest availability on EY's website, this is very annoying!

Do you mean phantom as in EY guest members see a seat appearing as available at the GuestFirst level but then cannot actually book it ?

Or do you mean phantom as in a AA member can see a seat appearing as available at the GuestFirst level but then when they call an AA agent no seat is bookable ?

My recent search was LHR-SYD. Found 1 Guest spot in F on EY18/EY450 (77W) and then called AA to book but they only saw availability in J on EY450. When I searched only AUH-SYD there was indeed no availability in F the following day although LHR-SYD still showed 1 Guest available.

boomy - see my post of 11JUN15 re seeing a seat on AA, and booking yourself as AA operators can't see the same seats available.

Same as my experience. Several AA reps said that they cannot access all the EY Guest availability which is reasonable, I think - they want to make sure their own FFers have exclusive access to some.

I should have added to my post above that my bookings made were with BA rather than Etihad...

I don't have any Avios miles unfortunately. Already hold points with 5 different FF programmes, there is a limit to how much I'm willing to invest on my premium flying :)

Something very interesting happened in regards to the above phantom availability on EY website. Yesterday I checked the website again looking for LHR-SYD flights in December and again the only flight could find for the dates I need was the same EY18/EY450 as quoted above. Again, it showed 1 Guest available when searching LHR-SYD but when braking the segments: LHR-AUH 1 Guest, AUH-SYD 0 Guest.

At that point I gave up and called AA to refund an existing cancelled booking I had on that same route, pay the $US150 penalty and re-book with BA or QF.

I called the AA SYD number and don't know why but decided to ask one last time for that EY flight. The nice agent put me on hold while looking for it and eventually, as expected, came back with negative result.
At that point I said that if he can't find me a seat then I wish to refund the points and taxes from my original (cancelled) booking. The agent then asked to put me on hold again while checking with his supervisor if there is anything else available on EY before processing the refund. After about 5 minutes waiting he came back and said his supervisor was able to book the EY flight I originally asked for. Well, that was a huge surprise! Two agents before couldn't do it and someone above them managed to somehow book it even though the AUH-SYD segment was not available on EY website.

I got a new booking ref and immediately called EY to confirm and select seats. After a few hours got the e-ticket as well so it looks OK.

That AA agent was a champion for moving my request to a higher level (even though I didn't ask for it) and by doing that he saved me going back home on an inferior product and paying $US150 refund fee on top of that.

Happy days :)

So you're flying home on Apartments all the way ? Or just LHR-AUH then 77W on the long leg ?

SYD-LHR I'm on A380 Apartments and LHR-SYD on 77W F.

Still better then BA or QF F which were the other alternatives for the return and also the late departure time from LHR is more suitable for me as I'm connecting and won't need to spend the night in LON.

Excellent result :). But it just shows how byzantine the AA miles / EY F game is. There appears to be a lot of 'discretion' with the AAgents; I wonder if they hold back F seats for their own elite members (or hold back the ability to request them from EY) until a certain time but might release/request them under certain circumstances? Now I wish I had pushed harder for my October AUH-SYD return leg (wanted F, only got J). Never mind.
