eSims, what is your experience.

The lack of 4G/5G symbol etc usually jogs the memory
That didnt que me to the problem when I did it for the first time. I assumed it was a faulty instal. tried toggling off/on, power cycled the phone. Then gave up and turned the Telstra sim back on so I could send off the email to holafly as by this time I was out of wifi range. Most expensive email ever.

Frewie is one of the worst I’ve come across.
How so? The only Frewie eSIMs I've used have been the free ones from SQ. You install them by using a QR code. Then, whenever you want it, you enable the eSIM and enable data roaming and it instantly works. (3 days later, it stops working.) Totally hassle-free. Have you used paid ones? Are they worse?

They have an app - works with those freebie and US$1 plans if you register.

cough app but I’ll take the cheap plans anyway…

Is it one per flight? Or just a one off?
They usually throw one at you if flying SQ but also offers via Pelago.

Most infuriating app visually surely has to go to YO, even with their recently 'improved' version......

Got pushed some advertising from Flexiroam for a super cheap global plan that might work for the more frequent travellers.

Global 300Gb / 600 days for US$300.

Claiming it's 70% off. I'd say its more in line with be cheaper providers but from a more reputable source.

There is a current 70% off promo - which is automatically applied, so you can double dip with another discount code including the MC 20% off. Here’s a screen shot from the app (I meant to post this the other day).

If I was self-employed and could expense the 360d plan, I’d consider it. Although, still other cheaper options around.

I do miss the low data, long duration plans FLX used to have. With a 70 to 90% off promo, they were great.

Just as an aside what happens if you're overseas and you lose your phone with a Telstra esim. If you get another phone are you able to get another sim remotely or do you have to wait until you are back in Oz

Google suggests you can transfer from lost phone to new phone. A MASSIVE advantage to having your home line on eSIM.

That’s obviously NOT possible with a physical SIM until you receive a new SIM. Interestingly, when I was travelling regularly for a multi-national, they’d provide a spare Telstra SIM - just in case! Presumably there was a way for the office staff to transfer the account to the alternate SIM.

I had my phone stolen in Paris. I contacted Optus' online chat facility using my MacBook. They put my number on hold until I bought a new phone.

When I advised them via chat that I had a new phone they emailed a new QR code to install a new eSIM. Everything worked immediately. So much easier than if I was relying on physical SIM card.

*Edit - As I was using another eSIM to access data I was able to remotely delete everything on my phone which had made its way to Morocco soon after being stolen.
