eSIM recommendations in Aus for NZ resident

Hi, haven't used an eSIM before so looking for any recommendations for an NZ resident on One NZ for use in Australia. Thanks for any help available.

With the closing of NZ 3G network I have installed 2 physical SIM's (AU & NZ) on my dual SIM Samsung. But yet to try out in NZ. The phone is receiving NZ text OK. Used to 2 separate phones"- 1 for each country

If you’re visiting for a while and have a spare physical SIM slot (or spare phone), you can pick up a pre-paid SIM in any of the supermarkets.

If you’re just after roaming data, then one of the plethora of eSIM providers should work fine if your phone is compatible.

The cost for both SIM or eSIM will vary a bit depending on provider and data allowance and duration.

If you’re coming back a fourth, then something with long duration plans that can be used multiple times are with loooking at. My main eSIM service at the moment is Eskimo. I buy 2 yr plans when they’re on Sale.

I am interested in the concept of eSims but have no experience with them.
The notion of running my local sim plus having an international sim for phone use while in USA and EU could be handy.
What have members experience been? TIA

Will you be back in AU some time in the next year or so?
A week or a month wont make much difference to cost. Unless you pay for a long expiry pre paid plan
On day 1 will you near a supermarket (Coles Woolworths Aldi) if getting a physical SIM

Hi, we probably will be back at some state but not sure when. We have a long Y OWA later this year so want to get some understanding of how to use an eSIM to minimise roaming costs.
Given my objectives any half decent eSIM should be ok shouldn't it?

Most of the eSIMs are data only - which suits most who just want to to stay connected.

That’s quoting me about A$17 for 5GB/7d.

My Monty app is quoting US$4.50, which is one of the cheapest I can see across half a dozen regulars I use.

As mentioned above, Frewie US$1/1GB/7d is very good value. Just top up another GB if running low.

I am also with One and $10/day seems to much for roaming. I went to Brisbane for a week in feb to open some bank accounts and needed a local number for 2 factor authorisations. I went to Telstra and got a sim card installed within 30 mins so I could have a local number as well as I generally go to Australia 1 or 2 times a year and decided a real sim would be better. They told me as long as I buy some data every six months I can keep the number active . I have still been getting texts even though my paid data is finished

How do you find that? It comes up as USD $4.80 for me, not $1.

The resellers of the 3 carriers often(always?) have better deals/plans,
Check when you account(~phone number) will expire, even when not topping up.

For AU phone/SIM an ID check is needed. The people in shops/airport kiosks know what to do, but can be done on line.

As post above may be worth getting an eSIM with world wide coverage (or at least where you are going).
At times your own local phone number can be useful.
Appreciate you are trying to practice the installation and use of eSIM on your AU trip.
Is a vast range of options and pricing. Some can have hidden pricing in the fine print.
