Make sure you read the fine print, blackcat20, discounts of that amount are *usually* on rack rates.

Regards,

BD

Flipping through some dates last night, the prices are rather attractive.

It's also worth noting that when you purchase virgin gift cards at the 5% discount, they take a few days to be electronically delivered. So you need to have them well in advance of booking a flight special. On the upside, once you have them, they are a much more convenient way to avoid CC fees than using POLI.
My experience was that the voucher arrived in my email within a few minutes. However it doesn't actually work for at least 24 hours after purchase, but there is no warning of this beforehand. The fee is 1% IIRC.

Thinking of getting one of these for VA vouchers and a few other things - has anyone got the digital edition for iOS, and knows how big (in terms of space on the device) it is? Hopefully not hundreds of megabytes?
One thing I liked was that it looks like it's got a "near me" function where you can show participating stores near you on a map.

I bought the book, but you can still use to app to locate places near you. Don't think it's that big, if it was my phone would have had a hissy fit (memory is just on full).

It's around 55mb on my iPhone 5

I bought the online book the other day. Up on holidays at the gold coast and was out for a bite. Thought I'd check the app and our restaurant was in there. Saved $25 off our bill. I think it's going to be great. Interestingly the manager called over the staff to show them how to redeem the voucher on my phone. Thanks Princess Fiona. Great deal!!

Bought the book a few weeks back but only registered the card today.
I should have taken a screen shot of the offer page, but I remember it mentioning that it was a $50 velocity voucher.

Also I got the impression that it would be a special for this year only to celebrate something or rather.

I've done my first few bookings using the gift cards, and discovered a couple of issues that I think will stop me bothering with these, at least for cheap flights. Apart from the fact that it has taken several days for me to receive the vouchers (which i note was not everyone's experience) - it's pesky having to find the voucher number and enter the expiry date each time (I thought it would go into travelbank). Even more annoying is that when the remaining voucher doesn't cover the flight, you cannot select any additional method of payment except for credit card, and so then the full credit card fee is added, which quickly undermines the 5% discount. (You can't use two vouchers at once).

sounds like a good deal.

Thanks for finding this information out.

I'd better see all of you come in for dinner, $50 saving (it's not possible to not spend small enough to not get the full saving) ;)

Be careful with what flights you're buying these for. I bought one specifically to pay for a one-way flight from the US, and have now been on hold for 25 mins while the call centre tries to work out how they can apply a $AU card to a flight which is ticketed in $US. The vouchers all say that they are valid for "any Virgin Australia flight", but apparently not. Watch this space...

And that's after four phone calls with Entertainment Book chasing up the voucher which didn't arrive when they said it would! Next time I'll just pay the extra 5% and CC fee and be done with it!

Struggling to see a downside here, other than a bit of faffing about.

Purchase a $1000 voucher for $950 using the EG rate. Purchase with point-earning credit card to earn, in my case say, 950 points . There's a 2% handling fee but you're still $30 ahead. Use the voucher for however many flights avoiding the $7.70 poke in the eye each time, until the flight cost exceeds the voucher remainder. At that point, cop $7.70 eye poke to remain $22.30 above the hole.

In my case, I reckon I'll save about 4 lots of $7.70 in each $1000 voucher. Savings would be greater if a larger voucher amount was purchased and/or if cheaper flights were purchased.

Not bad for a just a bit of faffing about....

If the cash due on top of the voucher is less than $50 I think you'll still avoid paying the $7.70?

That'd be great and was mentioned up thread. I couldn't see anything to that effect in the T&Cs, only this:

8. Only one Voucher can be used per booking. Any outstanding difference between the Voucher and the amount of the booking must be paid at the time of booking with a valid credit card for which a Booking and Service Fee will apply.

It does say a Booking and Service Fee, as opposed to the dreaded $7.70. Who knows, maybe they use their discretion and set the fee at $0 for transactions less than $50? Not holding my breath....

To update, the call centre managed to sort something out so they did a conversion and I could pay with the voucher. It took a lot of effort, but hopefully they'll be able to do it again if others query! :)

Hi guys

Has anyone managed to use the $50 voucher they dished out for free, on a flight only booking?
Mine appears to require a package booking.
