Entering a QF lounge with QR WP and then changing to your QF FF #

I was looking forward to using the OWS baggage allowance when I visit family at Christmas, until I read on the QF site that they restrict luggage to 1 x 23kg per person on the Dash 8 no matter their usual allowance.
Mmm doesn't seem right. Maybe a recent change? On my booking confirmation of an international flight with domestic dash8 connection, I had 60kg on all the legs. That was for march 2020 (qantas status).
I read somewhere that due to weight restriction, your excess baggage on dash8 may fly another service.
I've had no issues in the past as a WP checking in two pieces of luggage on the Dash 8 to go CBR-SYD for an international connection - mind you the most recent was in Jan, which seems like light years ago.

Interesting, is that also for international?

For international QF religiously scan BPs - because they need to know who's entering and who to bill. It makes sense for domestic because for the most part you would only be in the domestic lounge when flying on QF, hence their laziness in scanning because it doesn't really tell them much, unless QF Loyalty have an interest in mining the data.

Not that I NEED two bags going down, but I probably will coming back. If the load is light they might not worry about it.

As you can tell I made it into the TSV lounge. But it still wasn’t seamless. The lounge agent wanted to swap out my QFF # and add in my QR #. She then had to make a phone call and eventually let me in. This was the same agent that told me off the first time for swapping out FF #s Whilst in the lounge.

Getting there slowly, but another poor customer experience it would seem.

Are there any other reports of a dom QF flight earning QR points/miles (other than @blankman here). Can we put this in the one-off basket?

I checked my activity on the QR app, and noticed id been credited for a flight last Thursday. But i did change over to QFF before the flight once in the MKY lounge, and have received QF SCs.

Im 10sc short of completing the QF SG challenge, ( which i'll complete tomorrow )
Once this is completed, im going to just leave my next flight credit to QR and see what happens.

Interestingly that's showing as having earnt 5 Qpoints. I thought the general consensus had been no Qpoints on QF domestic flights. Handy!

Yes that was the consensus based on the rules and overwhelmingly in practice, however now we have two confirmed instances. I had my QR number in the booking and then was unsuccessful with a retro claim. I don't think it can be relied upon. A classic "YMMV" if ever there was one.

forgot to add, the other line from 8th June , Zero Award Credit, was from the BNE QF 747 last flight. I had my QR FF # attached to the booking.

I will be booking my first ever flight with Qantas shortly, I have the QR status match and the QF gold challenge going. I would like to book with QR number in the booking to receive the OW Emerald Benefits and change to QF after being in the lounge to credit to QF. What is the best way to do this, does it matter what booking engine I use (QF/ QR) and how do I actually change it once I am in the lounge, by logging in to the same booking engine? My experience with other airlines is the booking locks after its handed to airport control?

I would just book it using your QF number, you are getting lounge access via the OW rules. Your scenario is no different to booking say HK-AU or JP-AU on QF metal travelling and using yor QFF number on the booking, the OW rules gain access to the CX or JL lounges.

There were some initial issues with QF however these seem to have been resolved. @Mattg posted the details on another thread and the link can be found here

Thanks, is that due to it being difficult? I'd like to do it for the preferred seating/ priority baggage as the only way it seems to get those 2 is with it on my booking prior to check in?

I agree that it is probably worth doing for the priority seating. Priority baggage is so hit and miss with QF, that it is hardly a benefit.

I recently flew with my QR FF number on the booking, forgot to change to QF before departure but did it after departure (using the AY MMB website) and had points/SC's credited to QF a couple of days later.

Just a data point, at the TSV lounge this morning, had my QF number in the booking (NB) and presented my OWS card from another airline to gain entry to Qantas Club. Was effectively given a lecture by the staff member about how “this is not supposed to happen but I will let you in anyway”. Not how I needed to start my Saturday morning.

And quite frankly, not that they are really offering anything substantial inside the QantasClub anyhow, stayed for 5 minutes and went out to get proper breakfast at the terminal

I guess they cant let it go, that they've been wrong all along.

Please please please send feedback to Qantas about this. This should not still be happening!

it’ was an incident like this that made me ditch Qantas some time ago. Was in Sydney international terminal and the gatekeeper denied me entry to the lounge it was even a code shared flight. I don’t know how much this woman cost Qantas over the years but I fly on average 3 times a week domestic pre covid plus long haul international every 3 months
I had vowed to never fly Qantas again, but my decision to switch to Virgin has had a remarkable diversion with the descent of Virgin Velocity into the pits of hell. So does this mean Qantas will continue to rest on their laurels, or will another airline come into the market to try and keep them on their toes?

Yup, REXY :)
