Re: "Enhancements" to Membership Rewards scheme for Platinum Card / Platinum Reserve

Really? Please tell me more :) don't need a business:)

Nup. Regardless of the product's name and marketing, you can sign up for it as an individual for personal use. Unless something has changed in the past ~3 months that is.

ok thanks. By the looks of it, it's better to redeem for QFF using citibusiness gold?? compared to redeeming on sq and others?

The redemption rate to QFF is better than to DJ or SQ:

QF: 1:1
DJ: 3:2
SQ: 3:2

So you'll get 1.25 QFF points per $1 spent, 0.83 Velocity points per $1 spent or 0.83 KF points per $1 spent.

Which is better depends upon your priorities and how you use them I guess. QFF instead of DJ is a no-brainer for most people given similar burn rates, but 0.83 KF points is often worth more than 1.25 QFF points due to superior burn rates - plus they have a much larger international network and offer a very good product.

Thanks for the info. Yeah a tough one between QFF and SQ. Only wish I could get 1:1 with SQ :) If I went with QFF wouldn't it be better if I got the EDR mastercard?

I already have ascent premium via Plat charge. Also hold the plat edge and plat reserve.

Only if you spend more than $200k/year on Visa/Master, or the ~$60 annual fee difference between CBG and EDR is a problem for you. CBG earns 1.25 CitiRewards (and hence QFF) points per $1 spent but has a $200k/year point cap and $149/year annual fee, whereas EDR only earns 1 QFF point per $1 spent but has no point cap and a, IIRC, $90/year annual fee.

Re: "Enhancements" to Membership Rewards scheme for Platinum Card / Platinum Reserve

I mostly spend on my AMEX so not much VISA spend. so nowhere near $200k on visa, unless I ditched my amex cards but I just can't part with ascent...

Well in that case I'd say CBG is without doubt the best "backup" Visa/Master option for you then - except Select, no other Visa/Master beats it for sub-$200k-per-annum spend.

Re: "Enhancements" to Membership Rewards scheme for Platinum Card / Platinum Reserve

Thanks :) Will look into the CBG

You can get 1:1 with SQ on the Signature card, currently $250 yearly fee and 2K per month for every month you use it!

Re: "Enhancements" to Membership Rewards scheme for Platinum Card / Platinum Reserve

You're right :) So now I need to decide between CBG and Citi Signature :)

Ah yeah, completely forgot about Signature. To my mind the extra 0.17 SQ points per dollar is not worth the loss of flexibility (having QFF as an option on the CBG - and at a good earn rate) and the annual fee difference - but YMMV of course.

For whatever this data point is worth, Queens Plaza Boost Juice takes Amex, and I get triple points with them (after rounding down to the nearest dollar).

So it seems the new 3x points for restaurants rule simply applies to any establishment which takes Amex and has something you can eat or drink, prepared for you (i.e. so not supermarkets). Certainly gives one a case to chase points if they go to an eating establishment, pay with Amex and don't get 3x points.

Has anyone noticed how Amex rounds down to the nearest dollar before multiplying by 2 or 3? Kind of outrageous really. For example, a small transaction over the weekend at a 'restaurant' (McDonalds!) was $8.80 - rather than post 26 pts it posted 24. No big deal for me with this example, or particularly since I'll be cancelling this week, but certainly might be worth people arguing with Amex now before the system becomes too entrenched to change. Good luck though!

Yep, it's been alluded to throughout this thread (only whole dollars / round down to the nearest dollar), and apparently mimics the system in another country (at least).

Anyone getting dble MR points for foreign transactions? Checked out from Hilton Cape Town last week and was only credited with 1 MR pt per $ spent, instead of the expected 2:shock:

I really don't expect them to get it right. Another 'fail' in my account.
