SWUs or System Wide Upgrades are a nice new perk.four single-sector Upgrade Passes, for a single upgrade to the next immediate class, all the way through to first class)
Does CX have lifetime statuses?
Well, Cathay couldn't is Diamond Plus - that name was already taken!Airlines seem to struggle making a name for new higher statuses - Platinum One, Platinum Plus, and now Diamond Exec (not even Executive).
One symptom of this sometimes is that what used to be top tier, e.g. CX Diamond here, will start to feel sidelined (no doubt QF has experienced this to a degree). Interesting how Diamond Exec is merely twice the effort of Diamond; typically amongst CX's peers, it takes much more than that.
Does CX have lifetime statuses? If not, banking Diamond years is a fair benefit in place of something like it.
Yes ,that's really been the problem because silver is not hard to get and under the old system once you hit silver status points went back to zero with no incentive to chase higher levels. No wonder the Cathay lounges in Taipei are always packed. The rollover of excess status credits (capped) will appeal to some. I assume you still need to jump the same bar each year to retain status?
We sort of get that with QF and the lower threshold to retain status - which is probably better if you just earn to bare minimum to retain status (ie nothing to rollover).
What I hadn’t realised until reading the changes the other day, Silver gets CX lounge access (a bit like QF PS getting QP). But of course, you’re limited to ports where there is a CX lounge. But worthwhile if that’s your travel pattern. QR has something similar but it’s specific Silver lounge in DOH.

Paywalled. What’s the complaint? Something about mid-tier members losing out.![]()
