Airline liquid restrictions to be relaxed | News.com.au

I for one will not be sad to see the LAG restrictions go, if nothing else it means that the prices of small bottles of deodorant will go back to roughly what they should be rather than double the price of the regular sized ones (which where ok in size anyway until they started printing 100g \ 155ml's onto the size of the bottle)

I'd guess that, for flights to the US, their authorities might have something to say about this. They haven't been too keen to relax any restrictions so far.

I highly doubt much will be relaxed... The stupidities of OTT security only seem to increase...

And as we know, its not really about providing real safety, its about the perceptions the restrictions present and in Australia's case its about commercial gain for certain parties.

Unless it is done in co-ordination with other international authorities it is going to look even more that way. In particular, the fact that it only lifts the restriction outbound, and not inbound makes it look more like the process has been corrupted for commercial gain.

The other problem is whether or not it applies to intermediate points if you are on the way to Europe, for example. Not much good if your goods get confiscated half way.

Still, I guess anything that deals with the current farcical situation whereby security dispose of apparntly dangerous liquids by throwing them all in a handy rubbish bin must be a good thing.

I do have to admit, I was waiting for a terrorist (or idiot prankster) to fill a bottle with liquid explosives, have it confiscated at security with a timer to make it explode once it went into the bin...

For supposedly dangerous liquids they are pretty blasé with their disposal.

Also the total lack of a consequence for having tried to get them through and failing would mean anyone attempting to use this route to get an explosive on the plane would simply try again, and again, and again until they succeeded. And based on most people's experiences of forgetting about water bottles etc. they probably wouldn't need to try all that many times anyway.

The last time that my toothpaste was taken from me prior to departure was the 25th of July 2008. The aircraft subsequently blew up anyway.

Imagine how bad it would have been if you still had the toothpaste :!:
But at least his breath would have smelt good for the subsequent press interviews ... and perhaps overpowered the smell from other his underwear

On my most recent trip I had some liquids fall out of my plastic bag into my general bag and security didn't pick up on them......

I often "forget" to pull out the lag-bag and it just goes through the x-ray inside my carry-on bag. Very rarely is it removed for inspection.

Quick question (or 2)

We fly Perth to New Zealand then New Zealand to LAX in April 2012. Looking on the TSA site they still have the liquids and gels rules (into the zippy bag) so am I right in thinking we will still have to separate our liquids into the zippy bag and no bigger than 30ml each for flight to NZ and also those to USA.

Or does it look like we'll be travelling with normal size liquids and no zippy bag?

The zippy bag is fine by me, like to keep my things separate, just the sizing limitations that is a pain!

First overseas air travel, so not sure where to research on the net, other than the TSA site.

Oh one other query - are the domestic USA flights under the same liquids and gels rules? Or more like aussie air travel?

Cheers

Without going into too much detail, the volume for each individual LAG is 100ml, not 30ml

Domestic USA flights are subject to the same rules as we have internationally - ie. Liquids rules apply.

Yes you will have to travel under the lags rules. Check the airline website for security requirements. Also the customs website Travellers
