OMG I can't believe some people seriously think that it would be perceived as something seriously wrong with two guys travelling on the same booking, even in the UAE. My goodness it is common for business colleagues to travel on same bookings, the world over, and if you read any travel advice for ME, usually even two men have no issues booking the same hotel room - provided two beds in the room. If they were unrelated male and female passengers then there may have been more problems.
If anything, maybe the two passengers insisted on a single bed when assigned to their hotel, that could cause issues, but merely being on the same booking should not.
To me it sounds like a big customer service fail initially and then the guys just taking the mickey with a road trip across the U.S.
