Does anyone know whether Emirates still offers ODU? I remember reading somewhere that they offer ODU SYD-AKL for around $130 for Y>J.

Am taking the big bird to AKL on Jul 7 and if ODU is available at a reasonable price, I might have a go at it.

Thanks,

Ric

I received a PM from one of the members here who got the paid UPG, and IIRC its about a week before your flight that you may get an email asking you if you are interested to pay for an UPG.

Again we have bad timing that we can't catch upi, just like I missed you in MNL. As I will be flying the same route on the 18th.

Well enjoy your trip to AKL Ric!

Flashware,
Will certainly let you know the outcome!

Alanslegal,
Sorry to miss again. Just doing my bi-annual father and son (bonding) fly fishing trip to Turangi.
When are you going to finish your TR???

I just booked an EK special for LON-AKL with stopovers in DXB and SYD

Cost for r/t in first (A class) was a total of $6700 . The fare also included the normal chauffeur drive for pick up and drop off at all stops during the journey plus there is now another special deal running such that if booked in business or 1st class, can get 3 nights at a 5* hotel in DXB if deciding to do a stopover. The hotel booked had a normal rate of USD350 a night

If travelling before 30 June, they also have triple miles offer too

Was an excellent value deal

Dave

where did you book this fare?? can't find it on emirates.com

It was on emirates.com but is not being offered directly anymore but the deal is still available with consolidators

If you go to netflights.com : Flights, Hotels & Car Hire Worldwide , LGW-SYD is available at a total cost inc taxes of GBP2992 (AUD6192). If you are wanting stopovers you would need to call netflights I think; I can't see how to do stopovers on their site. Once you have the flights booked and paid for, then call Emirates up and you can get your chauffeur drives organised and ( if stopping over in DXB ) get your 3 free nights accommodtion

Just looked, www.ebookers.co.uk has the same deal for GBP2988 (AUD6185) and looks like with their multi city search might be able to book stopovers or might just want to call them on +44 20 8817 3172

I prefer dealing with ebookers than netflights, so would choose them in preference

You need availability in A class for this fare. If you search on ebookers and A class is not available , then the fare quoted will be close to GBP5000

Hey,

Does anyone know the likelihood that Emirates will post some sale fares to Middle East destinations for travel in August? I am looking to purchase a OW ticket and in the past have only noticed Emirates offering heavily discounted fares on return tickets only. The reason for OW ticket is we may want to return from a different destination depending on circumstances.

I can get a Etihad OW ticket for MEL-IKA for around $860. I am itching to buy this ticket right now as I fear from experience it won't be around much longer, but my travel companion doesn't like Etihad (not sure why, she's never flown with them) and would rather go Emirates. Me personally, I don't care much. I've heard they're both great.

Also, is there any viability to printing off the online quote I got and taking it to Flight Center? I heard they may match it or beat it? Is it a bigger hassle than its worth?

Thanks!!

If there's a good fare now, I would take it whilst it is available; $860 is a pretty decent fare

I would not bother with going to FC to get it matched; it is a lot of hassle for a trivial amount of saving ( they only will beat it by a few $ ) but will have drawback that if you want to make any changes , you will have to go through FC to make it

I am not sure if FC tacks on its own service fee on top of the airline charges if you need to change or cancel the booking, but there may be that to consider too

So I missed the Emirates sale to London by one day. Ended 8 March. Damn. I'm looking at going SYD - LHR 24 Sept, and then LHR-DXB 19 Oct and DXB-SYD 22 Oct. Current price around $2,600.

You think they will have another sale soon and offer a cheaper price? The price in the new year sale was around $2,000.

I looked at Etihad too but can't be bothered with the hassle of getting transfers to Dubai etc.

Any suggestions?

Emirates often (but not always) have better fares closer to the date of travel, but really that does involve a bit of gamble on your behalf. Also unless you have a preference for LHR, don't forget that EK also fly to Gatwick (LGW) which may be slightly cheaper.

One suggestion is purchase two trips, on from Sydney and one from Asia (eg from Sydney and Singapore). You can get SIN-LON/LON-DXB/DXB-SIN on the dates you want for around $1080 AUD. Couple that with a fare to SIN for < $1000 and you're well ahead. (may also work for different ports, such as KL, Bangkok, Manila, Jakarta, Shanghai, Hongkong).

Of course if you are concerned around misconnects by changing airlines at a point in Asia, another option is to buy a ticket from MEL or BNE to Singapore on EK and continue on the same plane (but different ticket) from Singapore.... can get your itinerary ex-MEL for $860 (to Singapore) + $1080 (from Singapore) ... $1940 total.

And of course this does all involve at least one extra stop (compared to service direct to Dubai), and given proximity of Abu Dhabi to Dubai, Etihad might not be so bad.

Also regarding the asia stop method, Qatar Airways is also very cheap ex-Asia.

Thanks for the ideas. The problem is that the flight times aren't as good. I was hoping to get the Emirates flight that leaves Sydney in the monring and arrives in London at 815pm the same night.

Might wait for Emirates to have a sale. I doubt the cost is going to increase above $2,600. Hope a sale comes up soon!!

Never mind people...booked on Etihad for $2030 with stopover in Abu Dhabi and free bus to Dubai!

I didnt realise Etihad provided a free bus - that solves my problem of organising and paying for transfers!

Catching a bus between countries is something of a foreign concept for most Aussies!

I believe Abu Dhabi and Dubai are in the same country. Abu Dhabi is like the Canberra of United Arab Emirates (UAE), Dubai is like the Sydney of UAE.

UAE is a federation comprising of 7 "emirates" (or better known as "states" here).

Happy to stand corrected if i got any of the above wrong.
