Emirates shameless efforts to "steal" Qantas top flyers

I thought everyone had already shifted to VA, SQ or CX?

You would think that PER, ADL and DRW based people would be crazy if they haven't considered the alternatives such as SQ, CX, EK, EY, VA or others..... it still beggars belief that VA didn't try to status match every QFF in Feb 2013 whom lives in PER, ADL and DRW.....

It's not like VA have a better international network out of those places, yes there is a few flights to coughet and Bali but Jetstar offer more for QFF'ers out of DRW and PER in terms of international flights than VA do.

Are upgrades for QF top tier frequent flyers common on EK?

Does EK know if you're Platinum or Platinum One (Oneworld partners don't - just Emerald)? Does it make a difference?

It should be no surprise that EK are putting these efforts in, that is what customer service is all about. The more interesting thing will be how QF responds with its own customer service changes,if any, and still turn a profit. As a QF ff I hope they are working hard in Coward Street on this.

I'll be flying my first EK sector in August albeit with a QF flight number, they can still upgrade me though :D

Had BA try the same at check-in once last year (they didn't upgrade me though), just said "not interested"

In all my flights as a QF WP I have been upgraded from biz to first 4 times - once on CX, once on BA, twice on EK (once each way on same trip). Never on QF. The only QF upgrade I have ever received is from economy to premium economy

It was displayed on my boarding pass like you would see with a one world carrier

So the answer is no, right?

Oneworld doesn't make a distinction between Platinum and Platinum One.

Sorry - i misunderstood the question. I thought you were asking generally about whether or not they knew about status not a specific question on whether they new about WP or WP1. To that point I dont know but assume that if oneworld carriers dont know then EK doesnt know

Spoke to Justin Hyams about this at function last night.

i said aren't you worried that once QFF's sample EK F and J they wont go back?

he suggested no, but when I chimed in about them making money either way (revenue share agreement) regardless of metal, as long as it was QF code share, he intimated that the lack of status credits (on EK code) and better earn rate would keep QFF's on code shares

A huge proportion of WA frequent flyers are involved in the FIFO industry and therefore likely locked into QFF by virtue of the fact that QF basically own 75% of the FIFO market intra WA.

Fair enough point. Especially for those business travellers who is contracted to fly Qantas.

However! However, if one is to fly between Australia and Europe as the major routes, and he/she is self funded, she/he may well switched to EK as the QF codeshares will mostly more expensive than EK metal.

Not a concern given that Tim Clark seems to think QF will cannibalise Australia-based Skywards members, so it goes both ways.

Why anyone would complain about special attention and an upgrade to F surprises me. This is a great incentive to try an EK flight now - eg on a trip to Africa/ME/EU.

EK and EY, in fact most Arab carriers, are notorious for upgrading pax from Y to J and J to F because they overbook so much. QF tends not to do this, and when they need to will do so prior to airport arrival by rebooking pax onto other routes.

Now, this happens a lot. It may well be that at the airport, or from HQ they have decided to focus on QF elites.

That said, a girlfriend of mine is from DXB. She has worked out a system that is 100% for scoring an upgrade from Y to J. She was EK Gold and now Platinum.

I just can't get that sloppy piloting effort out of Melbourne a few years ago that was a potential disaster for them......and all on board.

i have flown their premium classes and prefer the natural warmth of qantas when they get it right.

BA tried to upgrade you and you said you were "not interested" ?
Or BA tried to get you into their rewards/loyalty program and you said you were not interested ?
I'm suspected (perhaps hoping lol) the latter but with the way you worded it I'm not sure.

I suspect EK does know the difference between WP and WP1. As far as oneworld is concerned Emerald is Emerald and there's nothing higher than that.

Doesn't this tempt you to fly other airlines more ?
It certainly would me if other airlines are upgrading me more than the actual airline whom I have gained status with/shown loyalty to.

I gave up gambling on them getting it right a couple of years ago... and my employer has recently moved to best fare of day for long haul travel so I no longer have justify why I'm not using the former 'preferred' carrier, QF.
